Last week, the Port St. Lucie High School Dance Program, with the support of Ms. Quinones traveled to Orlando for an unforgettable experience at the Dance Disney Workshop—and this was the second time having the opportunity to participate! From February 13th to the 18th, 25 of our most dedicated students faced the formidable challenges of the Junior Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) 2026. This intensive week served as a true crucible, testing the character and endurance of every participant through a rigorous schedule defined by 0400 wake-up calls and the technical demands of rappelling, land navigation, and high-ropes courses. Angela Baumgarten’s Certified Legal Assistant students at SLW Centennial HS recently attended the third session of the Legal Assistants Clinic at the Rupert J. Smith Law Library on February 18, 2026. The experience offered students valuable, real-world insight into the legal profession and the expectations of today’s employers. On Thursday, February 12th, 2026, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion demonstrated exceptional leadership while assisting with the Freshman Open House. A total of 14 Cadets contributed to the event’s success, handling various responsibilities throughout the day. The afternoon began with a formal presentation of the colors, commanded by Cadet Command Sergeant Major Micah Rutter. The Color Guard included Lieutenant Colonel Rebecca Guison as the state color bearer, Cadet First Sergeant Hamza Alqadi as the right guard, and Cadet Captain Kamron Harris as the left guard. On Friday, February 20th, the Cobra Café was filled with traditional décor, flavor, and community as the school came together for our annual Black History Month luncheon. Hosted by Chef Strell, Chef Swertfager, Mrs. Leroy, and the Sunshine Committee, the celebration honored the richness of Black culture through food, performance, and shared appreciation. Our math lesson was as sweet as it gets! Students dove into the world of equivalent fractions using a full-size Hershey’s bar, turning a tricky concept into an unforgettable, hands-on adventure. As they snapped the chocolate into equal pieces, they could see fractions come to life—discovering cool connections like how 1/2 is the same as 6/12 when the bar is divided into twelve parts. Congratulations to the SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC “Black Talon” Drill Competition Team! They competed in the Lake Howell “Silverhawk Showdown” Drill Competition in Winter Park, Florida on Saturday, February 21st, 2026 against multiple other NJROTC units from all over Central Florida. Navy Drill Competition Field Meets have multiple events that individual school unit drill teams compete in.  These events include an Academic Test, 5 separate drill events, Push-Ups, Curl-Ups, a 16x100Yard relay, and a Personnel Uniform Inspection.  All in all, there are 13 separate trophies that can be earned at Navy JROTC Drill Competitions. Last week, Fairlawn Elementary’s fourth-graders traded their desks and textbooks for hiking trails and discovery as they visited the Oxbow Eco-Center. The field trip was packed with hands-on learning and exciting outdoor exploration that made science come alive in a whole new way. Students had the opportunity to explore Florida’s natural habitats while learning about ecosystems, food chains, and the importance of conservation. They observed native plants and animals, discussed how humans impact the environment, and discovered ways they can help protect local wildlife. Manatee Academy recently celebrated a memorable Literacy Week centered around the theme READ, White and Blue, bringing together students, staff, families, and community partners to highlight the joy and importance of reading. Throughout the week, every student and teacher participated in creating a schoolwide display by writing a favorite quote from a beloved book on a star. Did you know yoga helps your brain and body grow stronger? In PE, our K–2 students have been exploring yoga as part of our Educational Movement unit. Through stretching, breathing exercises, and mindful movement, students are discovering how yoga improves focus, calmness, strength, flexibility, and balance! They are learning how to control their breathing, different yoga poses, how to practice self-awareness, and build confidence while having fun. Bayshore Elementary lit up with excitement during our Perfect Attendance Glow Party! Students who achieved perfect attendance for both Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 were invited to celebrate their outstanding commitment. Each student received a glow stick and a special Perfect Attendance tag to mark their accomplishment. The lights dimmed, the music turned up, and our students enjoyed dancing, laughing, and spending time together.
