FPWA Students Visit Capitol Hill

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy 10th graders Berkley Barnes and Paige Cruse spent their spring break in the Florida capitol. This was Berkley’s 3rd year in The House Page & Messenger Program under Representative Dana Trabulsy. Paige came up to celebrate Ag Week at the Capitol and lobby with the Florida Cattlemen‘s Association. She had the opportunity to meet many of Florida’s most influential and gain more skill sets.

Jaguar Battalion 29th Annual Award Ceremony

On Wednesday, March 23rd, 2023, the Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion held its 29th Annual Award Ceremony. The purpose of this award ceremony was to award deserving Cadets for their service, loyalty, personal appearance, character, and knowledge of JROTC, as well as their outstanding achievements in and outside the program. Over 40 awards were presented to our Cadets by many Veteran organizations from the nation.

LPA Theatre Takes on State Festival

LPA Theatre Troupe 6958 attended State Festival over spring break in Tampa, Florida. The troupe participated with 6 events. 5 events received Superior Ratings and 1 received an Excellent Rating. Valerie Truby, Cael Fevrius, and Tyler Daniel all received Top Honors on their pieces. It was an exciting week that included their Large Group Musical performing for thousands of Thespians!  

SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Participates in Southern Oaks Discovery Day

The SLW Centennial High School NAVY JROTC participated in Southern Oaks Middle School’s Discovery Day on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023. OHK8 First Grade Students Celebrate 120 Days of School

Oak Hammock K-8 first-grade students were creative in showing their excitement for the 120th day of school. Some students created hats while others put special messages on t-shirts. Here is what the students had to say: “I am 120 days brighter”, “I crawled my way through 120 days”, and “120 days of school and I am still loving it.” The students are determined to make strides as they get closer to the end of the school term.  

Jaguar Battalion Cleans the Community!

On Saturday, March 25th, 2023, Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion cadets conducted a car wash fundraising event at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. Cadets were split into 2 different groups of washing and drying in order to get through as many cars efficiently. Our cadets were able to successfully wash many cars over the span of four hours.

SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Unit Tours Cape Canaveral Coast Guard Station

The SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC “Black Talon” Unit toured the Cape Canaveral Cost Guard Station on Monday, March 20th, 2023. The unit toured their Operations and Communications Center and received a brief on the responsibilities and daily operations of the Coast Guard. The Unit also toured the United States Coast Guard Cutters SKIPJACK as well as the CONFIDENCE.  They toured the Navigation Bridge, Engine Room, Galley and Common Spaces. The tour finished with a walk through of the Coast Guard small boat responsible for migrant intervention and narcotic seizures.  

Northport Students Take to the Skies

Seventh-grade Northstars in Mr. Fess’ STEM class constructed hot air balloons out of tissue paper, glue sticks, and wire. This project is one of many in their Flight & Space curriculum. The balloons are one stop on the “History of Flight & Space” unit the students are completing.  

Economic Development Council Hosts High School Counselors Bus Tour

The St. Lucie County Economic Development Council (EDC) took high school counselors and teachers on a tour of three employer sites.  Stops included Twin Vee PowerCats boat manufacturing facility, Amazon distribution center, GHO Homes building site, and Courtyard by Marriott where Superintendent Prince and Pete Tesch spoke to the group while they were served lunch prepared by the Recovery Sports Grill. It was a great day of seeing current career opportunities available for St. Lucie Public Schools high school graduates.  Big thanks to the EDC’s Jen Dubey, Rachel Savela, Pete Tesch, and the Porch Factory’s Jim Brann.

Law Day Art Contest

Sponsored by the Friends of the Rupert J. Smith Law Library, a Law Day Art Contest is being held that is open to all K-12 St. Lucie County public and private school students. Students are asked to submit posters, photographs, or videos about the theme of “Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility, and Collaboration”.
