Fairlawn Elementary is growing something exciting this year—a brand-new Gardening Club! This wonderful new group gives students the opportunity to get outside, get their hands dirty, and learn all about the amazing world of plants and gardening. Each week, students participate in engaging gardening lessons where they learn about plants, soil, seeds, and what it takes to help a garden grow. They also spend time working in our school garden, putting their new knowledge and skills into action. Students have been working hard to demonstrate positive behaviors and make great choices as part of our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program, and now they get to enjoy the rewards of their hard work. Fairlawn Elementary’s 2nd–5th grade students recently enjoyed an exciting and well-deserved celebration during the final ACALETICS Green Party of the school year. Students who earned an 80% or higher in ACALETICS were rewarded for their hard work and dedication with a fun-filled event on the green that included games, snacks, music, and time to celebrate with friends. Fourth-grade at Fairlawn Elementary School put such a fun and creative spin on getting ready for their reading state test with a Harry Potter-themed poetry review! To make things extra exciting, students were sorted into different Hogwarts houses and worked together to earn points by answering questions correctly. Fairlawn kindergarteners celebrated literacy with their annual Heart Word Egg Hunt on the playground. Colorful eggs were hidden across the grass, each labeled with a UFLI heart word for students to read. As children excitedly searched, they practiced decoding and recognizing important high-frequency words. After finding eggs, students proudly read their heart words aloud to a teacher. Each successful reading allowed them to trade in their eggs for a small treat, adding extra motivation and fun.
