Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

The Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida announced the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month contests. Six winners will be awarded a 2-year Florida College Plan scholarship provided by Florida Prepaid College Plans. All K-12 #FloridaStudents are encouraged to participate. FPC Beta Club Wins Big at Nationals

While most of us were relaxing in the glow of summer break, Fort Pierce Central High School’s Beta Club swept up 7 wins in the Beta Club National Convention held in Savannah, Georgia! 875 schools across the nation participated. The competition was challenging but Cobra Nation was ready! Oak Hammock K8 School’s Tunnel of Hope

Students at OHK8 received a warm welcome as they arrived on campus. During the Tunnel of Hope event, students were greeted by police officers, sheriff deputies, fish and wildlife officers, firemen, school board members, school district safety team members, teachers, and staff. Students gave hi-fives, fist bumps, and smiles as they walked through the halls reading signs of encouragement and listening to motivational messages. Central Cobra’s Claim Top Spots on ESPN’s Top 63

Congratulations to Adrienne Rivera and Tajeyah Chance for making it into the Top 10 of the ESPN Top 63 Athletes Awards. Adrienne earned the #1 spot becoming the first athlete in the Treasure Coast to earn it. In addition to earning the #6 spot, Tajeyah also won the “Capture the Flag” award as the player most likely to snatch the most flags next season. Forest Grove Middle School’s new media specialist, Ms. Geiger, has done a phenomenal job beautifying our media center and getting it ready for our students. She and her volunteers have put in many hours of sorting and organizing books as well as decorating the Media Center with a warm and inviting touch. FPC Cobras In the Courtyard

Fridays are the day of the school week we all look forward to! In Cobra Nation, we show up and show out on Fridays with fun in the courtyard! Thanks to Mrs. Brown, 9th-grade class sponsor, for her talents on the mic and bringing Cobra Nation together for some brain breaks with music and dance along with a not-to-be-missed round of musical chairs! 

SLWCHS Labs in Action

Students in Ms. Hesse’s biology classes conducted a lab on testing pH levels of different solutions. Students are learning about scientific investigations and the impact that micromolecules have on living organisms. In Ms. Radtke‘s AP biology class, students conducted a lab on testing the properties of water. Students needed to determine how different additives affect the hydrogen bonds between different water molecules. Students needed to create a null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis and chart their data. Students then analyzed and discussed their findings.

Fairlawn’s Back to School Luau

Fairlawn hosted their annual back-to-school luau Friday, August 23rd. Students, staff, and families had an amazing time dancing, playing games, and spending time together. Thank you to all those who came out for the fun!

St. Lucie West K8 PTO Back-to-School Fundraiser at Blaze Pizza

The Parent Teacher Organization of SLWK8 collaborated with Blaze Pizza in Tradition for their Back-to-School fundraiser. Parents and staff took advantage of the night off from cooking.  The PTO and Shark Nation family are grateful for the support, especially from our Proud Principal, Mr. Lezeau!

Cobra Nation Welcomes Families

With a new school year underway, Cobra Nation always finds a way to present our Cobra Best, our Cobra Pride, and roll out the Purple and Gold in style for new families and returning family members. Mathematical Sharks

Mrs. Quiles‘ third-grade students at SLWK8 explored mathematical concepts through hands-on manipulatives. This interactive approach helps them grasp abstract ideas and strengthens their problem-solving skills, making learning both effective and enjoyable!  

VGESS Takes Flight

Dr. Jacqueline Venzen and Dr. Thomas Gay, fifth-grade science teachers at Village Green Environmental Studies School, engaged their classes in conducting hands-on scientific investigations regarding paper airplane flight.  Students had to identify a problem, develop a hypothesis, plan and carry out systematic observations, outline a plan of action, and test their airplane design as they recorded their results.  Students were actively engaged in demonstrating their understanding of the scientific process as they let their paper airplanes take flight in an outdoor setting.  Students also conducted additional research regarding airplane design and which designs were best suited for long-distance airplane flight.

FGMS: Mrs. Proctor’s Class Makes Math Fun

At Forest Grove Middle School, Mrs. Proctor’s Math class was reviewing their learning goal- students will solve problems involving rational numbers and the four operations. “We are specifically working on the standard that students will add/subtract rational numbers with procedural fluency! Students are playing the head bands game in a new, cool way. Students must walk around the room, find a partner and pair up. Forest Grove Middle School Hosts STEM After School Program

Forest Grove Middle School is hosting an after-school STEM program for our students, sponsored by Mr. Tygesson and “The American Dream Factory” Students display interest levels, creativity, and inherent leadership skills that they will have a chance to develop, sharpen, and put to full use as the year goes on. Mr. Tygesson’s classroom has been arranged for a number of brand new 3D printers, laser cutters, and various printing machines for cups and clothing that every student will have access to learn and use as we prepare to launch a number of fantastic products and Brands.
