Surprise Visits

In true prize patrol fashion, Principal Michelle Herrington and her team from St. Lucie Elementary visited homes of students to celebrate their accomplishments and extend congratulations for achieving the highest score (5) on the Florida Standards Assessment! The team left balloons, signs, and high expectations for another positive year at each home they visited.

This Sounds Like Something Great

Let’s hear it for Mr. Lee Langridge! Mr. Lee Langridge, a safety system technician who works with the District Maintenance Department was recognized as a Star recipient based on his outstanding service to Lakewood Park Elementary’s stage PA and sound system. According to school personnel, Mr. Langridge taught them the ins and outs of making sure the sound system was set up properly, and he took the time to get every single speaker, microphone, and amplifier adjusted to perfection.  The result was a VPK graduation that was spectacular and memorable for so many throughout the community!

Transportation Is On A Roll

Special thanks are extended to the SLPS Transportation Team for providing exceptional service and attending to the needs of hundreds of children as they were safely transported to and from summer school this year. Providing transportation for students throughout the District to north and south school sites is a huge task, and our transportation department completes this charge each year with the utmost care and diligence.  Your service is of great value to our community!

Star Quality

Star Awards are presented to individuals who demonstrate exceptional service.  Ms. JoAnn Aguila’s team in the Assessment and Accountability Department know that she is a shining example of someone who demonstrates unbelievable energy and support for her coworkers and for the schools. This became especially clear during a recent challenge in which the department experienced some water damage. Mrs. Aguila was supportive and did her best to insulate her colleagues and the schools from the concerns of that challenge in order to continue providing quality service.

Jayden Diago won the Florida Retired Educators Association District 9 essay contest this year. District 9 encompasses five counties including St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee, Highlands, and Indian River.  Students were asked to write about  “Moments with My Grandparents.”  Jayden wrote about her grandpa or jampa who lives in the Phillapines in her essay entitled “My Occasional Jampa.”  Even though she is only able to visit with her jampa occasionally, her memories are special ones and his energy as well … Read More
