On February 16th, 2024, 180 students competed in the 36th annual St. Lucie County Regional STEM fair at Indian River State College. These grade 6-12 students represented 21 schools in St. Lucie County. The competition was split into two divisions, junior and senior, with 13 categories in each division. Students were interviewed by community judges from organizations such as IRSC, USDA, City of Port St. Lucie, UF/IFAS and many more. St. Lucie Public School students (middle and high school students) participated in the Chart Your Course: Maritime & Marine Career Expo. This event was hosted by the Fort Pierce Yacht Club Foundation in partnership with the Career & Technical Education department (St. Lucie Public Schools). This career expo provided opportunities for students to learn about various career pathways available to them in St. Lucie County. The students in Ms. Glendinning’s sixth-grade science class have been learning about various organelles. They enjoyed working in the science lab as they used microscopes to look at onion cells and cells of various types of plants. The students rotated microscope stations to see the cells of the different plants. They identified and drew the organelles according to what they saw in the microscope. On February 16, 2024, 16 students from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy participated in the 36th Annual STEM Regional Fair hosted by IRSC. The students demonstrated exceptional skills in presenting their projects and justifying their research to the judges. At the subsequent STEM Fair Award Ceremony held on February 21, 2024, eleven participants were chosen for one or more awards. One of the students, Alexander Delamarter, a 9th-grade student, was selected to proceed to the State STEM Fair and represent the school. Here are the winners and the awards they received:

At Lincoln Park Academy, students of NJHS eagerly gathered for a special presentation by St. Lucie County Sheriffs on drug prevention. Officers spoke about the dangers of drugs and the importance of positive choices. The highlight was the K-9 demonstration, showcasing dogs’ skills in detecting drugs, apprehending suspects, and obedience commands. Students gained insights into law enforcement’s role in community safety, leaving them inspired to make healthy choices and be positive in! 🚓🐾 #NJHS #CommunityEducation
SLWK8 students had a blast at PBIS Field Day! Our sharks worked in teams to compete in several activities, including Tug of War, Water Sponge Relay, Hula Hoop Race, Basketball Dunk, Ball Bounce, and Water Balloon Toss!
Huge praise goes out to the (18) Cadets from our Army JROTC Program who attended the annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge Camp at the Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation in Jupiter from 17-20 FEB. Over (250) Cadets from multiple Treasure Coast High Schools converged on the Camp for (4) days of rigorous training and team-building exercises to help them become tougher and more efficient leaders. Cadets slept in tents (in a wilderness environment) and had very limited comfort resources at their disposal. SLWK8 earned the Aim for 100 Award for our percentage of increase in attendance on 12/21/23 from last year’s early release the day before winter break. The team was honored at the school board meeting and received a banner. Congratulations, Shark Nation!
On Friday, February 23rd, Mosaic Digital Academy elementary students took a “Trip Through Space” in the Hallstrom Planetarium at IRSC. Professor Jon Bell led students through our solar system and beyond, giving them the opportunity to learn about the sun, moon, and planets; understand black holes and how stars are formed; and explore the Milky Way. Students even had the opportunity to hold a 26-pound space rock!
On Saturday, February 17th, Centennial student Haley Nathan sang the national anthem at the PSL National Little League baseball opening day. Haley is a junior and is in our Chorus program at Centennial. Great job Haley!
A PBIS Event With over 30 student organizations, teams, clubs, and class groups participating, Cobra Nation came together for free activities and refreshments for purchase. From refreshing flavored lemonade from the Gardening Club to National Art Honor Society’s crave-worthy chicken wings, popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy, cupcakes, pancakes, fruit cups, chips, and hot dogs, students purchased tickets to exchange for their favorite treat.
