Northport received the most votes from Sprint in-store visitors who voted for their favorite school through Sprint’s Back 2 School Contest. The contest covered the northern part of Florida including St. Lucie County. Sprint presented Northport K8 with a $5000 check! Thank you Sprint for supporting schools! Way to go Northport!

After much anticipation and excitement, the Peacock Arts District team selected the winning artwork for the “PAD Banner Contest” which is displayed throughout the Peacock Arts District in downtown Ft. Pierce. Over 100 entries were received from all ages sharing their own unique design for the PAD. The contest highlighted the incredible talent in our community, including young aspiring artists from our public schools. Out of 14 elementary and middle school finalists, ten were CAST students. St Lucie Culinary Arts instructors participated in the St Lucie West Kitchen Krawl hosted by Texas Roadhouse! Sarah Kirk, Store Marketer and Tanner Hedberg, Assistant Kitchen Manager welcomed the culinary instructors with open arms. The Krawl focuses on partnerships to enhance job opportunities and enrich culinary classrooms with relevant industry needs. Tanner hosted a detailed kitchen tour explaining “soup to nuts” and highlighting the entry-level kitchen positions. What an amazing day at Northport! The school community came together with a unified message against bullying. Parent and PTO president, Kendra Hansard, joined students for the Pledge of Allegiance and PTO vice president, Kristy Ellison, led the students in the Kids at Hope Pledge with a nod to a culture of kindness and antibullying on campus. Students across the campus made posters and banners to promote bullying awareness and voiced a powerful message of care, concern and kindness. Northport Northstar students hosted Port St. Lucie Mayor, Greg Oravec and Major Chris Cicio, Director of Detention for the Sheriff’s Department, in the media center recently. Both men initiated conversations with students about how they handle stress. In order for young people to achieve their potential, we need to recognize that social and emotional learning is a critical element in the educational process. Lincoln Park Academy students, teachers, and staff participated with millions of people across the country in Unity Day on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, to take a stand against bullying. By wearing orange, Lincoln Park Academy showed that we believe that no student should be subjected to bullying.
Students from Port St. Lucie High School and St. Lucie West Centennial High School were joined by their principals and District Student Services Personnel to read a resolution proclaiming the month of October as “Disability Employment Awareness Month” in St. Lucie County. The proclamation was read at the October Board of County Commissioners Meeting.
Treasure Coast High School AFJROTC, cadets from Unit FL-2008, in collaboration with Angel Robertson, the Outreach Coordinator for Congressman Brian Mast, took time out of their class to write letters dedicated to individual troops stationed overseas. The Christmas letters will arrive in time to deployed troops to wish them Happy Holidays! Hopefully these letters will make them feel less distant from home, and let them know that the cadets of Treasure Coast High School AFJROTC wish them all the best in the upcoming holiday season.

During the first weekend of October, Lincoln Park Academy produced the musical James and the Giant Peach! This production was a resounding success, attracting audience members of all ages. This fun filled production is full of magic, family and songs that make you want to sing along. The students involved performed with such heart and energy. It was a beautiful way to spend an evening. St. Lucie Public Schools engaged the entire family in learning at the KidMania event on Sunday, October 20th. Families learned how to help their child improve their reading through a variety of activities.
Kindergarten parents learned about the kindergarten standards, classroom procedures, and at-home reading strategies.
Forest Grove Middle School students and staff recently raised $800 for Bahamas Relief. Furthermore, the students donated over 550 items to be transported to the Bahamas via Missionary Flights International. TCHS AFJROTC spent a recent afternoon removing the stars from properly and ceremoniously retired American Flags. Blue Star Moms are mothers of US Service members who undertake this annual project to support and encourage service members, especially those overseas. The stars are packaged with a note of support and sent to military members to provide them a token that they can carry in their pocket to remind them that US Citizens at home support them and are thinking about them.
Students in the Aerospace Technologies Academy at Fort Pierce Central High School gained knowledge from experts in the Aerospace career pathways. Speakers included Paul Cejas, Deputy Chief Engineer for Autonomous Systems from Boeing; and representing Aeronyde was Alexander “Sasha” Biloos, Chief Technology Officer.
Community members attended PBPA’s first Community Connection Luncheon on Oct. 8th. Students were able to hear success stories and interact with different community members. They were also able to learn about some interests that our community members have and how those interests helped them experience success in their careers.
