Palm Pointe Artists win the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl Art Contest. Congratulations to Elementary School Division First Place Winner: Naima Guerrier – grade 5, and Middle School Division First Place Winner: Miyanna Morgan – grade 8. Students from St. Lucie County and Palm Beach County were asked to complete an artwork using “football and health” as the theme. What an absolutely wonderful morning of patriotism and pride at Northport today. Many local veterans came into school to take part in a Veteran’s Panel for students. Mrs. Kemp’s third graders led the program with the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Renelus and his band played the National Anthem and a rousing rendition of a medley of the songs for each branch of the military. Students in Susan Smith’s class read a poem called “The Veteran’s Blessing.” The veterans spoke eloquently about the importance of teamwork, support, brotherhood, education and most importantly, honor and integrity. Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, W.E.S.T. Prep’s Agriscience program hosted a virtual field trip for Samuel S. Gaines Academy, Forest Grove Middle and Allapattah Flats K8 schools. Students explored the Agriscience career pathway with out leaving their classroom.

We are excited to announce Southport Middle School’s Adopt-A-Street Club! The club that makes a difference in the community, one piece of trash at a time. The club meets once a month to clean up litter along the streets directly outside of the school and the City of Port St. Lucie has rewarded our efforts by placing signage on Morningside Boulevard. The annual Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl played at FAU stadium in Boca Raton hosts a fantastic art contest in partnership with Palm Beach and St. Lucie Public Schools. Lincoln Park Academy Junior, Sandy Gamez, had her art work selected as best in the district at the high school level. The competition asked students to depict the connection between “health and football” in a small work of art. Treasure Coast High School, AFJROTC Unit FL-20081 conducted several events in celebration and remembrance of our fallen military members on Veterans Day. With two Color Guards being performed consecutively in addition to the Veterans Day Ceremony held at Veteran Memorial Park, many cadets dedicated their time to honoring veterans. Furthermore, all events were attended by a plethora of veterans from every military branch, with every cadet earnestly learning about the unique experiences each veteran had to tell. Morningside Elementary school students and teachers honored Veteran families by holding an assembly. Students from all grades greeted the Veteran guests as they entered the school building and the students in the Gifted Program created skits, read poems and sang songs to honor the individuals who have served or are currently serving in the Armed forces. Veteran guests appreciated the recognition and enjoyed the assembly.
The Forest Grove Middle School Honors Geometry classes learned how triangles and their points of concurrency assist in solving one of the most important problems in the world – supplying rural communities with clean water! Students studied areas of the earth in need of clean water and the traditional ways of bringing clean water to these areas. They then studied points of concurrency and used those points to determine optimal locations for places to dig wells or provide point source filtration. Third grade students at Mariposa Elementary worked in partnership with the Fort Pierce Westwood Academy students. Collin Heatherington, Devin Gorzong, Wendy Zepadta, Zhanè B, Allison Kholer, Lena Shingledecker, Julia Haney, Samantha Watson, Clovis Wilson, and Nayeli Fernandez built four raised garden beds for their fellow Mariposa Monarchs. Students across the campus will participate in the care of the gardening beds. Many farm to table activities will be conducted which directly connect to the ELA, math, science and social studies standards. On November 1st, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion cadets participated in a parking detail honor guard for our last home football game against the Centennial High School Eagles. They directed traffic to the appropriate parking lot, carrying out their task efficiently and effectively in one of our busiest games against our rival school. The cadets ran this event smoothly and independently without additional administration. On October 31st, 2019, select cadets from our Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion Raider Team volunteered to support Southport’s quarterly PBS carnival. Ten cadets, who previously attended Southport, monitored bounce houses and obstacle courses while promoting the program to students considering JROTC the following year. Cadets featured in the pictures below are Cadet Private Robert Pollino, Cadet Sergeant First- Class Alexis Wilson, Cadet Private Catherine Caballero and Cadet Private Mery Fuentis. Mariposa Elementary School’s teachers and students celebrated Storybook Character Day with a parade. They showcased their favorite storybooks and dressed as their favorite characters. In the classrooms, students read their stories to each other, and enjoyed some treats. Lauren Rocha dressed up as Little Bo Peep and showed her book proudly. Guidance Counselor- Ms. Baliton, Asst. Principal- Ms. Patton, Math Coach- Ms. Henderson, and Literacy Coach- Ms. Almeida dressed up as their favorite story book character as well. It was a great day for literacy fun (and dressing up) at our school.
On Saturday, October 27th, the Treasure Coast High School National Honor Society sponsored two exhibits at the Indian River Lagoon Festival. The Ladybug Ninjas taught students about the benefits of ladybugs as biological controls, while our Pi-Pirates helped kids solve the mystery of the lost treasure using Pi. Together, they provided over 600 engaging STEM lessons to children in the community.

St. Lucie West Centennial HS HOSA students are looking to change those statistics. All too many times, we hear of a friend, or a family member, or a neighbor needing an organ transplant.
