Manatee Academy recently celebrated a memorable Literacy Week centered around the theme READ, White and Blue, bringing together students, staff, families, and community partners to highlight the joy and importance of reading.
Throughout the week, every student and teacher participated in creating a schoolwide display by writing a favorite quote from a beloved book on a star. These stars were combined to form a beautiful flag display in the cafeteria, symbolizing unity through literacy and the shared love of reading across all grade levels.
Students also enjoyed visits from guest readers representing both the local community and students from St. Lucie West Centennial High School CTE Early Childhood Program. The guest readers created meaningful connections as they shared stories, modeled fluent reading, and inspired students to see themselves as lifelong readers.
During the school day, students participated in interactive literacy activities such as Poem in My Pocket, which added excitement and creativity to daily instruction. The week concluded with a well-attended Literacy Night. Families joined us for a New World Reading Night where students engaged in reading activities together. Our district’s ELL Department generously provided a book giveaway to support multilingual learners, and families were also invited to visit a pantry to take home food items, reinforcing Manatee’s commitment to supporting the whole child.
Literacy Week at Manatee Academy was more than a celebration of reading. It was a celebration of community, connection, and opportunity, reminding students that books open doors to imagination, knowledge, and future success.
