Morningside Library Splashes Into Summer This June

LUCIE, FL – The Morningside Branch Library splashes into summer on Saturday, June 22 at 2 p.m. as the Movie Matinee presents “Aquaman.” Featuring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard, the latest in the DC Universe follows Arthur Curry, the human-born heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, as he goes on a quest to prevent a war between the worlds of ocean and land. Hall Fires in the First Pitch

Dorothy Hall, St. Lucie County’s School Related Employee of the Year, took to the field at the Digital Domain Stadium. She made her way to the mound and threw the first pitch to start the evening’s game. Also, Westgate student Jaden Baxter called, “Let’s play ball” at the game. Congratulations, Mrs. Hall and Jaden Baxter!!

LPA Girls Tennis Wins FHSAA All-State Academic Award

Mariposa Elementary Celebrates the 100 Mile Club®

At Mariposa Elementary, students in grades 2-5 joined in our 100 Mile Club® which was organized by our PE teacher, Mrs. Adriana Roberts. Whether the students ran, jogged, or walked towards their personal goals, the 100 Mile Club® inspired students of all abilities to be active in an accepting, positive, and inclusive environment. Michael Resendiz-Torres, Gabriel Barahona, Yadiel Tavarez and Jaistyn Thurston ran or walked more than 100 miles each.  This year, Mariposa Elementary students walked more than 8,000 miles.  This was a great achievement for all of the students.

Port St. Lucie High School Senior Graduation Color Guard

On Saturday May 23, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s Color Guard Team presented the colors at the Fenn Center for the Class of 2019 Senior Graduation. Seniors were excited to graduate and start their lives outside of high school. During the color guard the Port St. Lucie High School Chorus sang the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. LUCIE COUNTY, FL — Growth continues in St. Lucie Public Schools according to the Florida Department of Education’s release of Grade 3 ELA Scores.  The District saw a four-percentage point increase over last year’s benchmark; furthermore, 62% of the County’s traditional schools increased in the number of students who scored at proficiency levels (Levels 3, 4, and 5). Bayshore Elementary showed the greatest gain in the District over last year with a 21% gain. Other schools with large increases include Floresta Elementary with a 16% increase; Samuel S. Oxbow Kicks Off Summer Camps with Biology Bootcamp June 24

PORT ST. LUCIE – Spots are filling up at the Oxbow Eco-Center’s Summer Nature Camps, but there are still some spaces left, starting with the Wildlife Biology Bootcamp, beginning June 24. Designed for students ages 10-14, the Biology Bootcamp run June 24-28 focusing on science in nature. Campers will conduct their very own wildlife field studies on the Oxbow’s 225 acres of diverse Florida habitat. Lights, Camera, Cook-Off!

Fourth and Fifth Grade students at Palm Pointe competed in a cooking challenge on Tuesday, May 14th and Thursday, May 16th.  Fifty students participated in the event and showed off their cooking skills on Tuesday, and 40 competed on Thursday.  In order to participate, students had to read the book entitled Lights, Camera, Cook.  It was a Sunshine State Reader book for 2018-19.  In addition to reading the book, they had to pass a quiz or complete a graphic organizer showing they gained comprehension of the book.  Students were placed on teams of 5-6 and had a parent volunteer who … Read More

Cooking Demonstration

A group of students and their parents at CA Moore Elementary participated in a nutrition education class and enjoyed a healthy cooking demonstration as part of Career Week. They learned about making a balanced, quick, and cost-effective snack which they then made. The class wrapped up by enjoying yogurt parfaits with a variety of fresh berries!

Summer Nutrition Program

St. Lucie Public Schools Child Nutrition Services team provides numerous programs for our children and our community.  The District, designated as a Healthy Schools District, provides all students with the opportunity to receive a well-balanced breakfast and lunch during their regular school day, and as summer months approach, there are opportunities for students to partake in breakfast and lunch as well during these vacation months.  Watch this month’s segment of Eye on St. Lucie to learn about what is available.  

Kindergarten Online Open Enrollment

St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) Kindergarten open enrollment is scheduled to re-open with 24/7 online access.  The registration window will begin on May 20, 2019 and remain open until June 21, 2019.  Students entering kindergarten must be five years on or before September 1, 2019.   According to SLPS Student Assignment Director Michelle Jerger, “We understand that selecting a school for a child is a very important decision.
