St. Lucie West K-8 Super Bowl Math Prep in Mrs. Schettini’s Class

Mrs. Schettini’s Accelerated Math students geared up for their upcoming district assessment with Super Bowl–themed fraction centers. Working in teams, students created equivalent fractions, ordered and compared fractions, and measured their best “kicking” distances using math skills and strategy. The classroom was full of collaboration, problem-solving, and excitement as students explained their thinking and supported one another. Bayshore Elementary wrapped up Literacy Week with a fun and memorable Storybook Character and Scientific Vocabulary Parade! St. Lucie West K-8 Sharks Play the Sengsational Search

Ms. Seng’s 6th-grade students engaged in the Sengsational Search, an interactive learning activity inspired by the Amazing Race. Working collaboratively in pairs, students raced to solve multi-step clues that challenged their critical thinking, teamwork, and content knowledge. Each task is connected directly to their Ancient Egypt unit. Students created a detailed tri-fold foldable highlighting the three Egyptian Kingdoms, constructed a mummy model, illustrated canopic jars, and wrote an informational piece explaining the steps of mummification. Fort Pierce Central’s Girls Basketball Team made a powerful statement in the opening round of the district playoffs with an impressive 66–26 win over Vero Beach. From the opening tip, the Lady Cobras played with focus, intensity, and confidence, setting the pace for a commanding performance that showcased skill and teamwork. Weatherbee Elementary School was excited to celebrate their Night of the Stars recipients at this year’s annual gala.  Michelle Baker, teacher of the year, Brooke Gagliano, first year teacher of the year, Saily Belfast, school-related employee of the year, and Yahaira Oms, distinguished minority educator of the year, were all honored.  Our representatives and the other stars of the night represent the best of the best of St. Lucie Public Schools Employees.  We all enjoyed our time celebrating the hard work and achievements of everyone.  It was a lovely evening, and we look forward to celebrating again next year.

Project Citizen Visit at West Gate K-8

Congressman Brian Mast recently visited Ms. Estrella’s Civics students at West Gate K-8 to speak with them about their work addressing blue-green algae in the Indian River Lagoon. This issue is deeply important to the Congressman, who has worked at the federal level to regulate and reduce water releases from Lake Okeechobee. On January 31st, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Drill Team traveled to Forest Hill Community High School to compete against eight other schools. The Jaguars delivered an outstanding performance across multiple categories, ultimately securing 1st Place Overall.
