On Friday, May 1st, Southport Middle School Drama hosted their Musical Theatre Class’ spring musical presentation of Finding Nemo KIDS. In cooperation with Port St. Lucie High School Drama, student thespians from the high school level had the opportunity to visit Southport and student-direct and choreograph our 30-minute musical production inspired by the hit Disney/Pixar movie. Families, friends, and faculty enjoyed a trip down the rabbit hole where we got to meet the Cheshire Cat, the Caterpillar, the Queen of Hearts, and a myriad of other unique and eccentric characters. Our Fishing Club recently spent a meaningful Saturday morning giving back to the community while enjoying the great outdoors. Led by Coach Zoerhof and Coach Gonzalez, students participated in a beach clean‑up, working together to help keep our shoreline clean and protect the local environment. Southport Middle School recently enjoyed a wonderful evening of community partnership during Tip‑A‑Teacher Night at Texas Roadhouse. Students, families, staff members, and local patrons came together to support SPMS, creating an atmosphere filled with school pride and generosity. Teachers enthusiastically stepped into the role of hosts, assisting the Texas Roadhouse wait staff and connecting with families outside of the classroom in a fun and meaningful way. SPMS hosted an engaging Literacy & History Night this past week, bringing together students, families, staff, and community partners for an evening centered around literacy. Students enjoyed a variety of reading activities designed to spark curiosity and strengthen literacy skills, all while sharing pizza and spending time together.  SPMS Fishing Club members have been hard at work learning the many components that make fishing both a skill and a science.  All of this preparation paid off during their recent trip to a nearby pond, where students had the chance to put their knowledge into action. This past week, students had an exciting opportunity to learn from the Port Saint Lucie Warriors Lacrosse Club! On Monday, the team introduced basic skills such as passing, shooting, and scooping, along with key techniques to get started. By Wednesday, students were putting those skills into action with fun games while learning the rules of lacrosse. The Warriors also gave students a closer look at the equipment explaining the different positions on the field, the types of sticks used, and the differences between men’s and women’s lacrosse sticks. Southport Middle School recently honored students’ hard work and progress on their PM2 FAST assessments with a special “Pizza for Performance” celebration. Students who demonstrated growth in one subject enjoyed outdoor free time, while those who improved in both reading and math earned time outside plus a delicious pizza treat! The advanced band showcased their talent at Port St. Lucie High School, while the beginner band delivered an impressive performance right here at SPMS. Several 8th-grade students from Southport Middle School recently participated in the “8th-Grade Experience” at the St. Lucie Public Schools District Office, an event designed to introduce students to real-world career opportunities.  SPMS was proud to participate in this Classrooms2Careers initiative. Southport Middle School celebrated students who did not receive any referrals for the month of August with an exciting Staff vs. Student Volleyball Game! These students enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon cheering for their peers, purchasing snacks and drinks, and watching an intense matchup. The teachers came out strong, with a commanding lead, but the Girls Volleyball Team showed resilience, battling back to claim victory in both games! The Southport Girls on the Run team wrapped up their fall season by completing a 5K this past Saturday. Throughout the program, participants focused on more than just running, they built confidence, strengthened self-esteem, and developed leadership skills that will serve them well beyond the track. This community effort collected socks of all sizes for donation to the Salvation Army, which distributes them to families in need. Southport Middle School hosted its Read to Succeed Fundraiser at Big Apple Pizza on November 12, and it was a huge success! Families came together to enjoy delicious pizza while supporting SPMS. For every order 50% of proceeds went directly toward school supplies. Students who attended received a free book and a raffle ticket for a chance to pie our Admin and SRD during a live morning show!
