Southport Middle School proudly launched its All Pro Dads program last week, and our first meeting was everything we hoped it would be. Dads, father figures, and their students filled the room to share breakfast, play games, and simply enjoy time together. Southport Middle School STEM students recently took on the role of engineers as they explored the principles of structural engineering through a hands-on bridge design challenge. Students investigated how forces affect structures and learned what makes a design both strong and stable. During the activity, classes were tasked with solving a real-world problem: constructing a bridge capable of spanning a nine-inch gap between two tables while supporting increasingly heavy weights. Southport Middle School sixth-grade students recently stepped into the role of scientists while exploring the scientific method through an engaging hands-on laboratory investigation using invisible ink. As part of their learning, students researched how invisible ink was used during the Revolutionary War to secretly communicate with allied forces, helping share important information without detection. Students conducted an experiment to determine which type of juice would create the most effective invisible ink. Using three juices with different acidity levels, students carefully identified a single independent variable and observed the results using qualitative data. Southport Middle School hosted a successful and welcoming Open House, giving students and families an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming school year. Students enjoyed exploring the campus, familiarizing themselves with the layout of the school, locating their classrooms, meeting their teachers, and seeing their friends. On Friday, May 1st, Southport Middle School Drama hosted their Musical Theatre Class’ spring musical presentation of Finding Nemo KIDS. In cooperation with Port St. Lucie High School Drama, student thespians from the high school level had the opportunity to visit Southport and student-direct and choreograph our 30-minute musical production inspired by the hit Disney/Pixar movie. Our Fishing Club recently spent a meaningful Saturday morning giving back to the community while enjoying the great outdoors. Led by Coach Zoerhof and Coach Gonzalez, students participated in a beach clean‑up, working together to help keep our shoreline clean and protect the local environment. Students, families, staff members, and local patrons came together to support SPMS, creating an atmosphere filled with school pride and generosity. This past week, students had an exciting opportunity to learn from the Port Saint Lucie Warriors Lacrosse Club! On Monday, the team introduced basic skills such as passing, shooting, and scooping, along with key techniques to get started. By Wednesday, students were putting those skills into action with fun games while learning the rules of lacrosse. The Warriors also gave students a closer look at the equipment explaining the different positions on the field, the types of sticks used, and the differences between men’s and women’s lacrosse sticks. Southport Middle School recently honored students’ hard work and progress on their PM2 FAST assessments with a special “Pizza for Performance” celebration. Students who demonstrated growth in one subject enjoyed outdoor free time, while those who improved in both reading and math earned time outside plus a delicious pizza treat!
