SLPS Launches Summer Feeding Program

Starting June 13th, SLPS is hosting a Summer Feeding Program, offering FREE food for children and teens, ages 2-18. All schools in St. Lucie County are open feeding sites for the community and students can go to any school for meals. Students that are not enrolled for summer school or camp must sign-in at the front office prior to receiving a meal. Congratulations to the Class of 2022! Last week, Superintendent Gent, joined by Board Chairman Dr. Donna Mills, Board Vice Chairman Troy Ingersoll, Board Member Debbie Hawley, Board Member Jack Kelly, and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jon Prince celebrated the graduating classes of 2022 at Lawnwood Stadium. Free Internet for Low-Income Families

The Federal Communications Commission recently announced that 20 of the nation’s internet providers have committed to lowering costs for low-income households, a step that will essentially provide free high-speed internet for those participating in the Affordable Connectivity Program. The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a U.S. government program that helps many low-income households pay for broadband service and internet connected devices. CareerSource Research Coast Extends Deadline for Summer of Success

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., CareerSource Research Coast (CSRC) has extended their deadline to May 20 for signing up for the annual Summer of Success program. “Summer of Success is a great opportunity for teens to get a taste of various types of employment they may not have known were available to them while earning a paycheck as well as learning financial responsibility with budgeting and saving,” said Brian Bauer, CEO of CSRC. Fort Pierce Central Hosts Education Foundation Annual Scholarship Ceremony

Principal Monarae Miller-Buchanan and Assistant Principal Ayesia Boria were the Masters of Ceremony for the 2022 Annual Scholarship Ceremony sponsored by the Education Foundation. The Education Foundation awarded 60 scholarships funded by 20 donors totaling $58,000. SLPS Schools Receive Kits to Improve Needs of Students with Language Impairment

This year the Exceptional Student Education, Student Services, and Office of Teaching and Learning Departments collaborated and identified needs for students with language weaknesses. Materials were purchased through the IDEA American Recovery Funds grant to help improve language skills for students with disabilities who are identified with a Language Impairment. Each school received two kits each so that the speech-language pathologists and interventionists can work to improve the needs of students with disabilities who demonstrate a weakness in language which will, in turn, improve their listening, speaking, and reading comprehension skills. To celebrate the grand opening of their newest store on Orange Avenue in Ft. Pierce, community partner 7-Eleven gifted a generous donation of $711 to C.A. Moore Elementary. Students Decorate the District Office to Celebrate “Arts in Our Schools Month”

March is “Arts in Our Schools Month”, an annual celebration that showcases the accomplishments of students in dance, music, theater, and the visual arts nationwide. St. Lucie Public School students showcased their own artistic accomplishments by displaying their artworks in the SLPS District Office! SLPS staff was treated to a wide range of different artistic mediums submitted from various elementary, middle, and high schools in the district. Thank you to all schools and students for their wonderful work!
