Man Your Battle Stations! Fifth graders in Mrs. Portee’s class put their mathematical skills to the test. Students strategically placed their ships on the battlefield and took turns firing at their opponent’s fleet by naming their coordinates. Awesome strategies, Sharks!  

Our business partner Kona Ice challenged students to level up their reading with a challenge that rewards one lucky class with a sweet surprise! At Oak Hammock, we used a Read Across America Read-Tac-Toe activity to encourage more reading engagement leading up to Read Across America Day. Mrs. Buchanan’s 3rd-grade class won the challenge and received a Read-a-Loud and Kona Ice reward. Students at Oak Hammock continue to Level up Learning, and Level up Success!                  

Not all teenagers would be willing to wake up early on a Saturday morning, let alone volunteer their time to clean up a beach rather than enjoy the sun and sand. The teens of Fort Pierce Central High School’s National Honor Society, Gardening Club, and Key Club were joined by St. Lucie West Centennial’s Youth Advisory Council members for the 5th Annual Kimberly Pearson Memorial Beach Clean-Up. Students in Mrs. D’Andrea’s 3rd grade Gifted Class discovered and investigated real-world examples of the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Students identified the characteristics of each item and compared the item’s masses. Way to go, scientific Sharks!    

Mr. McGarry’s Ceramics students from Lincoln Park Academy joined forces with Centennial and Central High students to fight hunger in our community. They created over 30 ceramic pieces to add to the more than 200 items that sold in the fundraiser hosted by the Treasure Coast Food Bank. The event was a huge success with over $13,000 dollars raised, thanks to the combined efforts of our district art students, local businesses, and private donations.  

In celebration of Black History Month, the judges of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida held a creative arts and essay contest that was open to high school students in St. Lucie, Indian River, and Martin counties. This year’s theme was “Connecting and Celebrating the African Diaspora.” Out of 69 entries, Treasure Coast High School student Autumn won third place celebrating the Carribean/American connection! All of Cobra Nation congratulates our very own Coach Nick Clements for winning the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation’s Coach of the Week Award! In recognition of his hard work and dedication, Coach Clements will receive a $2,000 grant from the Bucs Foundation and new gear from US Nike Football. Mr. Clements coaches our winning lady Cobras Flag Football team. Way to go Coach Clements!

Village Green’s PBIS Committee hosted their annual students vs. teachers kickball to kick off Spring Break. Students got to enjoy extra outdoor time and watch a friendly, but competitive, game of kickball. Fifth graders who met PBIS expectations for the 3rd quarter played against faculty and staff while their peers cheered from the sidelines and enjoyed an icy treat to battle the heat. It was a close game, but the teachers stunned the crowd and came out on top!

Chester A. Moore’s 5th graders are on their way to visit Full Sail University and Bethune Cookman University. We would like to give special thanks to our business partners Dr. Helwey Mustafa, Mrs. Latisha Fuller-Mustafa, and La Central Grocery for their generous donations. Mrs. Collins’ 4th-grade class at Lawnwood Elementary recently completed a timeline and test questions project. After studying nonfiction texts with timelines, they explored another text without a timeline. Students constructed a timeline solely from the information provided in the text.  Then, they created three test questions and answers to deepen their learning.  It was an enjoyable learning experience.  GO LEOPARDS!

Our JROTC Titan Cadets raised nearly 400 pounds of food items during the March Food Drive for the Treasure Coast Food Bank. They also supported our local Bread of Life Food Pantry by providing meals to families in need during the Drive-Up Donation Event. Titan Born, Titan Bred

Cobra Nation and Big Apple Pizza’s Van Duzer Foundation rallies with one our own! On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Big Apple Pizza hosted a fundraiser for Fort Pierce Central High School Chemistry teacher, Adora Burkes. Mrs. Burkes is diagnosed with stage four cancer. Although it is not curable, the chronic condition is considered treatable but is very expensive. For the foreseeable future, she is bravely facing rigorous radiation, chemo, and physical therapy treatments. Fairlawn Elementary wrapped up spirit week with their annual fun run. Students in all grade levels participated in the boosterthon event and 5th graders had their own special color run!

Northport K-8 students in Mr. Fess’ eighth grade STEM class continue to work on their robotics and problem-solving skills. This week, students designed, coded, and built their own solutions to the problem of getting a small block through a “minefield” into a bin at the other end. Their varied solutions are a testament to the creativity and engineering skills these students are developing.

Congratulations to the Lincoln Park Academy Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble for earning straight superiors at the District 13 Music Performance Assessments. Both ensembles will be advancing to State MPA in March and April. GO GREYHOUNDS!!  

All K-5 Lawnwood classes completed a group project.  Students learned about influential African American Entertainers, Athletes, Scientists, Inventors, Entrepreneurs, Government Leaders, and Writers.  Display boards were developed to highlight the accomplishments, awards, and contributions made by these great leaders.  Projects featured Langston Hughes, Ruby Bridges, Patricia Bath, Madame CJ Walker, Garrett Morgan, Kyrie Irving, and many more historical figures.  A special thank you goes out to Mrs. D’Jion Jackson, Dr. Jodie Certosimo, Dr. Leinitia Robinson, and Mrs. Michelle Barreto for using a rubric to rate all projects and select the top three.  Hats off to all LWN teachers for making … Read More

18 Survivors of the Holocaust shared their stories with students and teachers at Oak Hammock K8 School. Also among the listeners was the Mayor of Port. St. Lucie, School Board Members, School District Personnel, and the Superintendent. Students recited poems that were written for the event and a surprise guest speaker told of his experience of studying about the Holocaust while in college. The event was very informative and left a lasting impression on all who attended.      

SLWK8 seventh graders presented at the District Project Showcase. They have been preparing since December by researching problems in their community and finding a public policy solution. Our students went through three rounds of judging to display their knowledge and hard work. Thank you to our incredible students and Civics teachers for all their dedication!
