Just before Spring Break, Centennial’s Eagle Culture Committee (PBIS) celebrated diversity and our students that have excellent attendance and behavior with our very first “Around the World in 100 Minutes!” The event consisted of music, games, activities, food trucks, and booths from countries around the world.  Eligible students had an amazing time celebrating their heritage and learning more about the heritage of their fellow students and teachers!

West Gate K8 8th grade students enjoyed an educational experience as they toured Washington D.C. just prior to break. Some were even selected to participate in the “Change of Wreath” ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery.

Towards the end of the top-notch season, the Lady Cobra’s Champion Flag Football Team was invited to Tampa to meet the Buccaneers players and play a game on their home field. Coach Clements couldn’t be prouder of his team! From their dedication, hard work, and cohesive vision, the team members have made clear that while winning is always the goal, winning as a team means more to players. Congratulations to the LPA High School Orchestra and Orchestra Director Laura Hopkins for achieving superior ratings at this year’s Music Performance Assessments, which took place a Vero Beach High School on March 12, 2024.

District Superintendent Dr. Jon R. Prince and School Board Member Mr. Troy Ingersoll visited the Cobras during a recent practice to congratulate them on their academic and athletic achievements throughout this memorable season. The Fort Pierce Central Boys’ Basketball Team won their first District Championship since 2011 by knocking off 3 straight higher ranked opponents on the road. On Saturday, March 9th, Mr. Curatolo and members of the Treasure Coast High School National Honors Society, in collaboration with 5 other high school chapters of NHS, completed the largest beach cleanup project to date. Over 100 members spent that Saturday morning cleaning the Hutchinson Island beaches, sidewalks, and pathways of any trash and debris they could find. Each chapter covered at least 2-3 miles of beach helping make St. Lucie and the Treasure Coast clean and suitable for the environment. Congratulations to the Lincoln Park Academy Choral Department!! The Women’s Chorus “Premiere” and the advanced Women’s Chorus “Belle Voix” both received Straight Superior ratings at the Florida Vocal Association District 13 Choral Music Performance Assessments. They now move on to the State Music Performance Assessments along with the Women’s Ensemble, Duet (Dalita DeCambre and Rayna Desmangles), and Soloist Angellesiea Cerda.   State MPA will be held in North Palm Beach and West Palm Beach in April. Sophia H. Katsigiannis, a student at Treasure Coast High School, has been selected for the High School Honors Performance Series at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Sophia will perform the bass clarinet in July 2024 with the Honors Band. Participation in the Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated young performers from across the world. Sophia will join performers from 42 United States, Guam, South Korea, and Canada for a special performance at the world-famous Royal Festival Hall, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. Village Green Elementary appreciates all of the St. Lucie Public Schools Bus Drivers who safely transport our children to and from school day in and day out. We recognized and celebrated all their hard work and dedication to the children this week. Each driver was surprised with a special treat each day this week. The bus drivers were greeted with coffee and breakfast, yummy treats, Village Green shirts, and cards of appreciation from our students. Thank you to all the bus drivers for all that you do!

On March 11th and 12th,  the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted their annual Flag Retirement Ceremony where Cadets retired worn and torn unserviceable flags. Cadets properly retired the unserviceable flags in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code. Each Cadet received a chance to retire a color of the flag. The first squad retired the red stripes which symbolize hardness and courage. The second squad retired the white stripe which signifies purity and innocence. The third squad retired the blue field which is indicative of vigilance, perseverance, and justice. Lakewood Park Elementary VPK students visited the Brevard Zoo after completing our unit of study on animals. Students were able to deepen their knowledge of animals and their survival needs. They got to see what the animals’ habitats look like and how they differ for different animals. They had a wonderful time at the zoo field trip.

Is There Anything Better Than a Good Book? -YES, Free Books! At FPC, time spent by friends, colleagues, and Cobra family members was time well spent by enjoying yummy Cobra Cookies, fresh coffee and tea, and free books! The Fort Pierce Central High School Sunshine Committee, led by Mrs. Kelly, put on their first ever book swap. At this free event held in the media center, FPC staff were invited to bring a book and take a book. FPC sets the Gold Standard on the Treasure Coast! Congratulations to Ms. Emily Royo and her artistic team of Cobras that created the Out-of-the-Box award winning school display at this year’s SLC Fair. This year, we lent our Purple and Gold to guard all the bright futures of SLC students. The Gold flowing from Cobra Nation is not visible in coins or bricks, but in safeguarding the academic, extracurricular, and athletic interests of all those growing up and growing strong in our county. This week, School Resource Officer McCarty and Officer DeJean presented to our 9th-grade students the Port St. Lucie Police Department Officer Steve Brown Model Traffic Stop Program. This program is to promote positivity between teens and law enforcement by teaching them how to have a positive interaction during a traffic stop. This program is to honor the late School Resource Officer Steve Brown who was once the SRO at Treasure Coast High School.
