On Saturday, April 12, 2025, several of Ms. Bosque’s fifth-grade students participated in the Elementary Science Showcase at the St. Lucie Public Schools District Office. Completing a science project deepens students’ understanding of a scientific investigation, and it requires them to apply scientific inquiry, a multifaceted activity. The processes of science inquiry include formulating investigable questions, constructing investigations, collecting appropriate data, evaluating the meaning of that data, and communicating the results. Lawnwood Families Attended a Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Family Night

The Lawnwood Leadership Team hosted a PM3 Parent Night where parents learned about Florida’s statewide standardized assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, which align with the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards. The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST), covering VPK through grade 10 ELA Reading and VPK through grade 8 Mathematics assessments, is administered three times per year as a progress monitoring assessment. School Counselor Lilias Batchelor has organized an Afterschool Boys Club for boys in Grades 3-5 at Lawnwood Elementary School. Mr. Singletary of Roundtable SLC and Mr. Mack have partnered with Lawnwood Elementary School to support this project. Our students eagerly anticipate this weekly program, which provides them with opportunities to collaborate, solve problems, and create solutions. Second-Grade Students of Lawnwood Elementary Participated in the Dictionary Project

The St. Lucie Education Foundation, Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County, and The Fort Pierce Rotary Club visited Lawnwood Elementary and provided a dictionary for every second-grade student. Our students will benefit from this generous donation of brand-new student dictionaries and free passes to the Manatee Center. We appreciate the commitment of these local agencies for enhancing our students’ learning in such a unique way. Lawnwood Leopards Enjoyed Playing 9-Square in the Air During Physical Education Resource Class

During a recent PE class, our fifth-grade students thoroughly enjoyed this dynamic and engaging game. It was a great way to get everyone moving and having fun, and it also helped to strengthen teamwork and communication among participants. 9 Square in the Air is a fast-paced game that combines elements of volleyball and four square. The game is played with a large grid of nine squares elevated off the ground, and the objective is to keep the ball in the air while trying to eliminate other players by getting the ball to land in their square. Lawnwood Leopards are Celebrating Black History Month

During the month of February, students in grades K-5 learned about the contributions of various African Americans.  During this schoolwide celebration, classroom teachers guided students as they worked collaboratively to research influential African Americans like Denzel Washington, Mae Jemison, Simone Biles, Madame CJ Walker, Toni Morrison, Rosa Parks, and Dr. Martin Luther King.  They gathered information from websites and articles.  Students also created drawings, charts, and artwork to enhance their class project display board.  During the Black History Family Night, students dressed as their assigned historical figure and shared important facts about their person. Lawnwood Leopards Are Deepening Their Understanding of Physical Science

Ms. Bosque’s fifth-grade students are comparing and contrasting the basic properties of solids, liquids, and gases, such as mass, volume, color, texture, and temperature.  They measured and compared objects and materials based on their physical properties including mass, shape, volume, color, hardness, texture, odor, taste, and attraction to magnets.  The students enjoyed working together and recording their research in the lab journals.  Also, during this physical science experiment, the students learned about changes in matter.  By the end of the activity, the students were able to describe the physical changes water undergoes as it is heated and/or cooled. .

Lawnwood Leopards are celebrating Black History Month while creating lifelong memories through community engagement. Mrs. Collins’ fourth-grade students are always eager to learn about community leaders.  In honor of Black History Month, Mrs. Collins invited Fort Pierce City Commissioner Curtis Johnson Jr. to visit her class. This provided students with a unique opportunity to practice their communication skills by interviewing him. Lawnwood Families Attended Parent Conference Night

In honor of national parent involvement month, a parent conference night was held at Lawnwood Elementary School.  Teachers, students, and parents met to analyze progress monitoring data, review academic goals, and discuss strategies for improvement.  Parents also learned how to use Skyward to track their students’ academic growth, attendance, and behavior.  It was another awesome parent involvement event.  GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Elementary Students Enjoyed the Eco Guardians Performance

Lawnwood Elementary students enjoyed the Eco Guardians Performance.  With the help of Nikki Neutron, a superhero for the energy-saving Eco Guardians, Grades K-5 students learned about energy efficiency.  In summary, students learned about the importance of energy conservation and ways they can help save energy.  GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Students Enjoyed the Vocabulary Parade

K-5 students enjoyed participating in a vocabulary parade.  Students showcased their understanding of different words through costumes and displays.  This parade was inspired by the book Miss Alaineus.  Overall, it was a fun and interactive way to enhance vocabulary skills. GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Student Are Researching Hispanic Countries

Every VPK – Grade 4 class selected a Hispanic Country.  Students were engaged as they learned about Hispanic cultures, foods, traditions, and music.  The teachers and students created a display board to showcase what they learned about their country.  A special thank you goes out to Laurie Boyer, D’Jion Jackson, Shemair Dorelus, Kim Jay, Jodie Certosimo, and Michael McCarthy for coming out to view the displays and select the winning classes. Overall, it was a great opportunity for students to work collaboratively and learn about Hispanic Countries.  GO LEOPARDS!      

Lawnwood Students Are Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

All LWN families were invited to attend our Annual Hispanic Heritage Family Night.  Together we learned about the contributions of influential Hispanic Americans like Roberto Clemente, Sonia Sotomayor, and Cesar Chavez.  A delicious taco dinner was provided as we celebrated Hispanic/Latin music and culture. Lawnwood Leopards are learning about growth mindset.  K-5 students attended the NED Show which focuses on character education.  The NED acronym stands for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best.  Here at Lawnwood Elementary School we will use the NED approach as we continue to promote a culture of kindness and excellence throughout our campus.  GO LEOPARDS!  

Lawnwood Elementary Students Enjoyed the Talk Like a Pirate PBiS/STEM Event

Lawnwood students enjoyed the Talk Like a Pirate PBiS/STEM Event.  Students participated in a sink or float activity to test the density of different objects by putting them in water. This was a great way to learn about weight and buoyancy.  The students made their predictions and used a graphic organizer to record the results.  Go LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Elementary Staff Members are TREASURE HUNTERS! The faculty and staff members of Lawnwood Elementary participated in a Kids At Hope professional learning opportunity.  Mr. Kevin Singletary, Kids At Hope Training Coordinator & Treasure Hunter, provided a training for the treasure hunters of Lawnwood Elementary.  We believe all children are capable of success, No EXCEPTIONS!

Mrs. Collins’s fifth-grade students are learning about Hispanic Leaders.  Recently, they completed a class project about Jeanette Nunez, Florida’s first Hispanic female Lieutenant Governor. Students learned about Nunez’s career and the contributions that she has made to help all Floridians.  Lawnwood students are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month!  GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Leopards Enjoy Daily Read-Aloud Time

K-5 Lawnwood teachers provide daily read-aloud time.  Read-aloud time is a top priority at Lawnwood Elementary School because it enhances students’ vocabulary skills, improves comprehension, and fluency skills.  Our second-grade students are enjoying the Geronimo Stilton Series and the Junie B. Lawnwood Leopards Celebrated National Aviation Day

August 19th was National Aviation Day and the students of Lawnwood Elementary made paper airplanes.  The Resource Team led this PBiS event and students enjoyed learning about aerodynamics.  Students explored vocabulary terms like aviation, aviator, force, gravity, thrust, runway, and so much more.  Teachers supported students as they changed the design of the airplane to see how it affected the flight and speed of the plane.  Overall, it was a fun, engaging PBiS Science Event.  Go Leopards!
