Training Day for Fort Pierce Central’s EMR Students

Students from Mrs. Applebee’s Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) program at Fort Pierce Central High School recently participated in a training day with the St. Lucie County Fire Department. This invaluable experience provided students with the opportunity to complete a variety of educational and simulated training. Dan McCarty Middle School – Food Pantry

On Tuesday 2/25, Mrs. Natta, 8th grade school counselor, was interviewed by the Treasure Coast Food Bank regarding the success of the Dan McCarty Food and Teen Pantry. In October of 2023, a student inspired Mrs. Natta and the school counseling department to start a food and teen pantry to help all our students and their families. The DMMS food pantry provides food like rice, canned goods, pasta, and chicken to our families, while the teen pantry provides items like soap, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste. Our 3rd-grade scholars in Mrs. Forrester’s class just proved that hard work pays off! They achieved proficiency on their Unit 4 district math test, and we’re celebrating their success with a well-earned treat—Freeze Pops! In honor of Black History Month, Village Green Environmental Studies School students brought history to life during our “Night at the Black History Museum” event. STEM students are having a great time while reviewing different kinds of forces. They worked as a team creating friction on the balloons for the balloons to be able to lift up the tissue paper due to the electrostatic force. Static friction acts on objects when they are resting on a surface. Morningside Elementary competed in the Odyssey of the Mind Regional Tournament. Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem solving competition where teams present a long-term problem they have worked on all year and solve a spontaneous problem during the tournament. The 4 Morningside teams each placed in the top 5 of their division with 3 of the teams advancing to the state competition. Fairlawn hosted student-led conferences last week for grades kindergarten to fifth grade. Parents, families and friends alike were invited to come in and be treated to students sharing their data and growth throughout the school year. Students were also able to share examples of math, reading, writing, and science work with their guests. This was an eventful experience with students from St. Lucie Public Schools. Students had the opportunity of meeting with noteworthy scientists who dedicated their time to meet on a Saturday. The day was filled with a planetarium view of fabulous planets, stars, the moon, constellations, and the sun. Students also had an opportunity of extracting DNA from a strawberry, and exploring fossils. The student highlight was the robotics presentation. On Wednesday, February 19, Oak Hammock held its Annual Holocaust Remembrance Day, welcoming 18 Holocaust survivors, community members, School Board members, and district personnel. Lawnwood Leopards are Celebrating Black History Month

During the month of February, students in grades K-5 learned about the contributions of various African Americans.  During this schoolwide celebration, classroom teachers guided students as they worked collaboratively to research influential African Americans like Denzel Washington, Mae Jemison, Simone Biles, Madame CJ Walker, Toni Morrison, Rosa Parks, and Dr. Martin Luther King.  They gathered information from websites and articles.  Students also created drawings, charts, and artwork to enhance their class project display board.  During the Black History Family Night, students dressed as their assigned historical figure and shared important facts about their person. Missing School Means Missing Out Attendance Initiative

SLW Centennial High School recently implemented an attendance initiative to increase daily attendance. The theme was “Missing School = Missing Out.” Teachers and members of the attendance team greeted parents at the carline and thanked them for bringing their children to school on time. As a token of appreciation, parents received an attendance card with information on who to contact if their student’s absence needs to be excused in the future. Throughout February, SLW Centennial High School celebrated Black History Month with engaging and educational activities. The festivities included weekly trivia, a 90’s Black music karaoke session, and an arts and essay contest focused on understanding and embracing diversity. Students and staff also participated in a door-decorating contest, showcasing their creativity and appreciation for Black history and culture. MSE Students Explore Science: A Day of Discovery at IRSC

What an amazing hands-on experience for five Morningside Elementary fifth-grade students! Each class sent one student to collaborate with a scientist at IRSC. The day commenced with an introduction to a robotic dog performing tricks, followed by a fascinating demonstration on how exhaled carbon dioxide increases water acidity. Throughout the rotations, students held real dinosaur fossils, extracted DNA from strawberries, explored robotics, and enjoyed a cosmic presentation in the planetarium. Manatee Academy K-8’s Science Fair Superstars

The middle school science fair was a wonderful opportunity for students to explore their curiosity and dive into hands-on experiments. Manatee Academy’s middle students dove right in with some of the most intriguing projects involving the investigation of how various factors influence growth and reactions.
