Makaria Sandlin brought home the 2nd place trophy in Saturday’s Florida Civics and Debate Initiative State Championship in Original Oratory. More than 50 middle and high schools competed in Orlando for this year’s State competition. With Cobra pride, the Fort Pierce Central family joins the Speech and Debate Sponsor, Mrs. Lisa Embry, in congratulating Makaria!    

Mr. Mathison’s Cybersecurity classes had a wonderful trip today on our tour of IRSC. The students had fun exploring the robotics lab, and the programming that goes behind the robots. Then we checked out their IT lab and played the “Backdoors & Breaches” card game which simulates scenarios of IT pros vs hackers. Finally, we toured their manufacturing building to see the workshops, nanotech, and business labs. Students enjoyed the hands-on experiences during the field trip, which was paid for with the Cyber/IT Pathways Grant from the Florida Center for Cybersecurity.    

On Wednesday, March 29th, the Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted our final Blood Drive of the school year. With help from our Cadets, we were able to run the Blood Drive smoothly and efficiently. Thanks to our Cadets, members of One Blood as well as our teachers and staff here at Port Saint Lucie High School, we were able to collect enough blood to save over 200+ lives.

The Oak Hammock 8th Grade Osprey Band participated in the Florida Bandmaster’s Association Concert Band Music Performance Assessment. The 8th-grade students worked diligently to learn and perform Mount Vernon, Little Brazil Suite, and Little Rondo for Band. They received straight superior ratings on stage and a superior in sight reading, receiving an overall superior.  

Today was the opening day of the Student Perks Coffee Cart and Fort Pierce Westwood Academy students in Ms. Cooper’s class got to be the first helpers! It is at the County Annex building on Virginia and 25th each Tuesday. Students from all the high schools rotate weeks to have the opportunity to learn skills for employment and customer service skills. They sell coffee, bagels, pastries, fruit, and tea. Music in Our Schools was a beautiful event showcasing the talents of our Choir and Band. Mr. Wiley and Mr. Hagans did an amazing job preparing our Chorus and Band students for this magical event!  

Fort Pierce Central High School concluded Black History Month with a first-ever interactive wax museum. Students, parents, and staff interacted with students from Mrs. Embrey’s Speech and Debate Club, Mrs. Nance, and Ms. Kelly. The wax exhibitors portrayed famous African American Freedom Figures, Abraham Lincoln, Chadwick Boseman, and many more. Exhibits “came to life” with a short presentation informing the audience about the person along with their achievements and interesting life events. The audience enjoyed the event and the presenters enjoyed showing their talents.    

On March 22, 2023, the Lincoln Park Academy Key Club conducted the swearing-in ceremony of officers. Elections were conducted at the February meeting, and the results were then announced. Faith Mobley will hold the position of President, Nachbi Pierre is Vice President, Megan Pinto is Secretary, and Jeno Retutal is Treasurer. Their term of office will continue through May 2024. Our Junior Family Night was a huge success! We partnered with the Boys & Girls Club to support our students as they head toward meeting their goal of graduation! Our Panther Bistro hosted a delicious spaghetti dinner!

On March 23rd, Orlando Science Center visited Lakewood Park Elementary. During the day, 4th and 5th grade students learned about potential and kinetic energy with real-life angry birds, explored the scientific method with mealworms, used coding to operate robots, and experimented with flying drones. In the evening, parents and students experienced 15 different STEM stations. From plants, to airplanes, to fractions, families had a blast!

Fort Pierce Central High School has a long and rich tradition of participating in the Young Floridian Scholarship program. This year is no exception. Brave Cobra students successfully submitted applications and mastered their individual interviews with three judges! Teacher and sponsor Mrs. Thompson had the honor of spending six months with the best of the best of the Cobra senior class. Lincoln Park Academy senior softball athletes Madison Davis and Callan Kloeckner, along with tennis player Jaclyn Dyer, each signed letters of intent to their respective colleges and universities. Davis, an ace pitcher for the LPA softball team will play at Converse University (Spartanburg, South Carolina).  Jaclyn Dyer will join the tennis team at Keiser University and Callan Kloeckner will play at Indian River State College. Recently, Angela Thomas, Prevention Specialist with New Horizons of the Treasure Coast, provided a 7-week Too Good For Violence program for Weatherbee Elementary 1st and 2nd-grade students.  They learned how to be responsible in keeping the classroom peaceful, how to manage their emotions, and practiced their conflict resolution skills.  Ms. Thomas is pictured here with some of her 1st and 2nd-grade students.  

The SLW Centennial High School’s NAVY JROTC “Black Talon” unit participated in their annual “Battle of Platoons” events and competition. The “Battle of  Platoons” competition was held this past Saturday, March 25th, 2023.   The Battle of Platoons events are a series of competitions that all four platoons compete in against each other and the results are used to crown the “Honor Platoon” during Awards Night at the end of the year.
