On Saturday, March 1st, 2025, the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s Drill Team competed in its AREA 3 Regional Drill Meet hosted at our school, Port St. Lucie High School. This is the most important drill meet of the season because it determines if the team will advance to the state competition. Savanna Ridge Elementary’s 3rd grade math teacher, Mrs. Sanchez, took her classes outdoors to enjoy a beautiful day, while working on a math measurement lesson. Mrs. Sanchez and Mrs. Joseph facilitated the lesson, while students worked together gathering data and analyzing their results. Students were given various tools to record data on chart paper within their collaborative groups, such as rulers, timers, and number lines. Mrs. Jason’s 8th grade students engaged in a friendly competition with their peers for their IXL performance. All students are provided an opportunity to complete IXL lessons in their Language Arts class. Our 8th grade Social Studies teachers support our ELA classes by providing additional time for students to engage in IXL lessons for ELA. Ms. Jason’s 3rd period class won the IXL challenge. On Tuesday 2/25, Mrs. Natta, 8th grade school counselor, was interviewed by the Treasure Coast Food Bank regarding the success of the Dan McCarty Food and Teen Pantry. In October of 2023, a student inspired Mrs. Natta and the school counseling department to start a food and teen pantry to help all our students and their families. The DMMS food pantry provides food like rice, canned goods, pasta, and chicken to our families, while the teen pantry provides items like soap, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste. In honor of Black History Month, Village Green Environmental Studies School students brought history to life during our “Night at the Black History Museum” event. STEM students are having a great time while reviewing different kinds of forces. They worked as a team creating friction on the balloons for the balloons to be able to lift up the tissue paper due to the electrostatic force. Static friction acts on objects when they are resting on a surface. For example, if you are hiking in the woods, there is static friction between your shoes and the trail each time you put down your foot. Morningside Elementary competed in the Odyssey of the Mind Regional Tournament. Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem solving competition where teams present a long-term problem they have worked on all year and solve a spontaneous problem during the tournament. The 4 Morningside teams each placed in the top 5 of their division with 3 of the teams advancing to the state competition. Fairlawn hosted student-led conferences last week for grades kindergarten to fifth grade. Parents, families and friends alike were invited to come in and be treated to students sharing their data and growth throughout the school year. Students were also able to share examples of math, reading, writing, and science work with their guests. This was an eventful experience with students from St. Lucie Public Schools. Students had the opportunity of meeting with noteworthy scientists who dedicated their time to meet on a Saturday. The day was filled with a planetarium view of fabulous planets, stars, the moon, constellations, and the sun. Students also had an opportunity of extracting DNA from a strawberry, and exploring fossils. The student highlight was the robotics presentation.
