The Cobra nation courtyard was filled with fun, games, food, and sunshine last Friday with our school’s Spring PBIS Carnival! Our students enthusiastically participated in a wide variety of engaging activities, including karaoke, basketball, the highly popular dunk tank, parabolic billiards, inflatables, temporary tattoos, and disc throw competitions. A treat for the taste buds was equally impressive with food and drinks ranging from a feast of hot dogs, pizza, chips, baked goods, Boba tea, fruity lemonade, and cotton candy. Village Green Environmental Studies School celebrated Read Across America Day on Monday, March 3rd. Read Across America Day is celebrated to encourage the love of reading and to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Seuss.  Students and staff at Village Green celebrated the Fox in Socks reading day by wearing their craziest socks to school. The PBIS team at Village Green Environmental Studies School held their 3rd annual Neon Dance on Friday night. Village Green students and their families danced the night away in the glow in the dark cafeteria. Manatee Academy K-8 6th grade ELA students recently took part in an exciting classroom debate, tackling the statement: “The disadvantages of technology outweigh the benefits.” Over the course of a week, students carefully prepared for this challenging debate as the culminating activity for their Unit 3 lessons. Throughout the unit, they explored various stories that examined the positive and negative impacts of technology on society. This in-depth exploration allowed students to develop well-rounded perspectives and engage in meaningful discussions about the role of technology in their lives. Oak Hammock celebrated Black History Month by showcasing influential people through an engaging museum. Each pod of teachers and students worked collaboratively to create a display of the person or people they selected to share with the school. Some of the displays included Garret Morgan who invented the traffic signal, Harriet Tubman who led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom through the underground railroad, as well as Katherine Johnson whose calculations were crucial to NASA’s space missions. During a recent PE class, our fifth-grade students thoroughly enjoyed this dynamic and engaging game. It was a great way to get everyone moving and having fun, and it also helped to strengthen teamwork and communication among participants. 9 Square in the Air is a fast-paced game that combines elements of volleyball and four square. The game is played with a large grid of nine squares elevated off the ground, and the objective is to keep the ball in the air while trying to eliminate other players by getting the ball to land in their square. The Senior Barbecue at SLW Centennial was a resounding success. The barbecue brought together the graduating class of 2025 for a day of fun, food, and festivities. The event featured many exciting activities, including bounce houses, games, and other activities that brought out the inner child in every senior. Congratulations to the Black Talon Drill Competition Team of SLW Centennial! The unit earned a spot and competed in the Lake Howell Area 11/12 NJROTC Florida State Drill competition in Winter Park, Florida.  They competed against 20 other Navy JROTC units. The cadets showcased their exceptional skills and dedication, which led them to win 5th place in the Armed Exhibition Drill and 3rd place in Team Push-Ups. On Wednesday, March 5, Lakewood Park Elementary School came together to celebrate Special Olympics Awareness Day. The event aimed to promote understanding, respect, and inclusion of individuals with disabilities.  In preparation for the celebration, the media center hosted a special presentation focused on teaching students and staff about disabilities, and the importance of treating everyone with respect and dignity.  To show their support, students and staff wore red, white, and blue, the signature colors of the Special Olympics. Palm Pointe is Navigating the Future with space travel at the St. Lucie County Fair. Congratulations to PPE on their first-place win at the SLC Fair School Display for the judge’s choice!  Mrs. Longo’s HOPE classes partnered with the HOSA club in the Battle of the Belts challenge. The group surveyed student and parent drivers to see who was wearing their seatbelts. Of the 320 cars, 300 people wore their seatbelts and only 20 did not! Great job to those who participated! The HOPE classes also participated in a poster contest sponsored by the Treasure Coast Safe Kids and the Florida Department of Transportation. Robotics students in Mr. Fess’ Northstars STEM class created their first remote controlled robots this week. Students designed, built and coded robots to navigate an obstacle course in the robotics arena. Groups raced to navigate the course in the fastest time. These students recently took a break from robotics to complete an industry certification course in Artificial Intelligence.
