Northport K-8 Celebrates B School Grade

Northport K-8 principal, Mr. Rustay, STUCK to his work for our celebration of earning a B school rating. Students and staff took part in taping him to the wall! Students and teachers, who helped pave the way for Northport’s successful year, added piece-by-piece colorful duct tape that affixed Mr. Rustay to the main hallway wall. Colts Identify Mystery Substances by Testing pH

Eighth graders in Mr. Nicks’ science class at Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies (SGAET) identify unknown compounds by testing their chemical properties. pH indicator (Anthocyanin) was made by boiling red cabbage and collecting the purple solution that was produced. This indicator changes color based on the acidity or alkalinity of the substance it is added to. Students made observations on the color change in their lab reports and attempted to identify the unknown substances based on the known pH of common household solutions.
