Holocaust Remembrance Day at Oak Hammock

On Wednesday, February 19, Oak Hammock held its Annual Holocaust Remembrance Day, welcoming 18 Holocaust survivors, community members, School Board members, and district personnel. Visitors toured the school’s permanent exhibits and survivors shared their powerful stories with fifth and sixth-grade students. These moments made a lasting impression on those in attendance. Lawnwood Leopards are Celebrating Black History Month

During the month of February, students in grades K-5 learned about the contributions of various African Americans.  During this schoolwide celebration, classroom teachers guided students as they worked collaboratively to research influential African Americans like Denzel Washington, Mae Jemison, Simone Biles, Madame CJ Walker, Toni Morrison, Rosa Parks, and Dr. Martin Luther King.  They gathered information from websites and articles.  Students also created drawings, charts, and artwork to enhance their class project display board.  During the Black History Family Night, students dressed as their assigned historical figure and shared important facts about their person. Missing School Means Missing Out Attendance Initiative

SLW Centennial High School recently implemented an attendance initiative to increase daily attendance. The theme was “Missing School = Missing Out.” Teachers and members of the attendance team greeted parents at the carline and thanked them for bringing their children to school on time. As a token of appreciation, parents received an attendance card with information on who to contact if their student’s absence needs to be excused in the future. Engaging Black History Month Celebrations at Centennial

Throughout February, SLW Centennial High School celebrated Black History Month with engaging and educational activities. The festivities included weekly trivia, a 90’s Black music karaoke session, and an arts and essay contest focused on understanding and embracing diversity. Students and staff also participated in a door-decorating contest, showcasing their creativity and appreciation for Black history and culture. MSE Students Explore Science: A Day of Discovery at IRSC

What an amazing hands-on experience for five Morningside Elementary fifth-grade students! Each class sent one student to collaborate with a scientist at IRSC. The day commenced with an introduction to a robotic dog performing tricks, followed by a fascinating demonstration on how exhaled carbon dioxide increases water acidity. Throughout the rotations, students held real dinosaur fossils, extracted DNA from strawberries, explored robotics, and enjoyed a cosmic presentation in the planetarium. Manatee Academy K-8’s Science Fair Superstars

The middle school science fair was a wonderful opportunity for students to explore their curiosity and dive into hands-on experiments. Manatee Academy’s middle students dove right in with some of the most intriguing projects involving the investigation of how various factors influence growth and reactions. For example, one student’s topic was studying the pH levels in basil water and how it affects plant growth. Students at St. Lucie West Centennial High School had the unique opportunity to meet with Mr. John T. Reid, a Senior Admission Counselor from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, New York. Forest Grove MOA Students Explore the Smithsonian Museum

Great things are happening at Forest Grove Middle School! Our 6th grade Marine Oceanographic Academy students identified different habitats such as the habitats in the Indian River Lagoon, the near-shore waters, and the Oculina reef. Students also participated in a scavenger hunt, examining the 6 different tanks modeling the different habitats searching for the marine organisms that occupy each. In addition, the students had an inside tour of how the aquarium cares for their organisms. Forest Grove Middle School had over 400 students participate in our Nacho Average Student celebration. What does this mean for our school and our students? It means that these students were either proficient (Level 3,4,5s) and/or made significant gains from the PM1 to the PM2/Mid-Year assessments. This week SLW Centennial’s Outboard Marine class embarked on an educational field trip to the Ft. Pierce Marina – River Walk. The trip included 24 enthusiastic students who were eager to learn more about their industry of interest. The visit included the presence of Ft. Lawnwood Leopards Are Deepening Their Understanding of Physical Science

Ms. Bosque’s fifth-grade students are comparing and contrasting the basic properties of solids, liquids, and gases, such as mass, volume, color, texture, and temperature.  They measured and compared objects and materials based on their physical properties including mass, shape, volume, color, hardness, texture, odor, taste, and attraction to magnets.  The students enjoyed working together and recording their research in the lab journals.  Also, during this physical science experiment, the students learned about changes in matter.  By the end of the activity, the students were able to describe the physical changes water undergoes as it is heated and/or cooled. .  

Fort Pierce Central’s Black History Celebrations

Our annual Black History Month celebration transformed the Fort Pierce Central auditorium into a vibrant showcase of culture and achievement this past Friday, welcoming over 800 attendees including students, faculty, staff, district personnel, board members, and distinguished guests. Black History Month, observed each February in the United States, originated from “Negro History Week” established by historian Carter G. Woodson in 1926. Weatherbee Second Graders Showcase Their Talents

Weatherbee second graders showcase their talents! Recently, the whole grade participated in and voted for the best entries in their coloring contest honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. With just over 100 second graders at Weatherbee Elementary, each student colored a page for the competition. All of the six second-grade classes then voted on a winner from each class. Administration even voted for the best overall in second-grade! Unfortunately, the winner was unable to be present for the awards ceremony and picture but did receive his medal.
