Representatives from the FPWA Army JROTC Program attended the Annual Treasure Coast Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Scholarship Fundraiser Ball at the Santa Lucia River Club. The ball is held as a fundraiser event to benefit Treasure Coast JROTC Programs by building a growth-focused scholarship fund that is awarded at the end of each school year. Westwood JROTC cadets read to kindergarten and first grade students at St. Lucie Elementary for Literacy Week. This was extra special for one of our cadets who went to SLE for elementary school; he reconnected with several of his teachers and shared his success in school so far! MOA students in the Ocean Conservation group worked with Forest Grove Middle School students to learn the importance of using a microscope. This partnership will give these future high school students the tools to be successful!  

Lakewood Park Elementary students, families, and community members enjoyed an engaging and fun-filled week for Celebrate Literacy Week.  Monday kicked off the week with community guest readers in each and every classroom.  Throughout the week students enjoyed buddy reading, themed dress-up days, and a Family Dinner and Literacy Night event. The SLPS Talent Development Department had an amazing day with new teachers on the first of five Refining and Improving Starting Educators (RISE) 2 days for 2022-2023! Some of Palm Pointe’s middle school students participated in the Regional STEM Fair held at IRSC on January 13th. We are so proud of our school representatives. They presented proudly and showcased their hard work to the judges throughout the day. Way to go Rockets!

The Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Agricultural Mechanics class built a ladder ball game out of PVC pipe. This activity taught them the same techniques they would need to build an irrigation system. We are proud of their hard work!

Students and parents had a great time becoming the “ringmasters” of their 7th Grade content at Palm Pointe’s 7th Grade Family Carnival. Students participated in “Escape 7th Grade,” a Civics Escape Room on the Articles of Confederation. Students also solved math problems to pop balloons for prizes, answered text-based questions in ELA to “go fish,” and made a laser maze in Science. Thanks to all who joined us!

On January 20th, 2023, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion traveled to Santaluces High School to participate in the Drill Competition. The females placed 1st in Unarmed Squad, 1st in Armed Squad, 1st in Color Guard, 2nd in Female Dual Exhibition, 2nd in Female Solo Exhibition, and 1st in Let 1 Squad. The Male team placed 1st in Unarmed Squad, 1st in Armed Squad, 1st in Solo Exhibition, and 1st in Dual Exhibition. Overall, the Jaguar Battalion performed great and won 1st place overall.

Port St. Lucie High School is always proud of its amazing Drama Department, led by Mr. Patrick Madden. If you haven’t been to a show at Port St. Lucie High School, you are missing out! The Winter Production of “Anything Goes” is underway and Opening Night was a grand success! “Just amazing,” one audience member said. “I thought I was sitting at a Broadway show,” said another. Congratulations to Mr. Madden and his ALL-STAR cast and crew!

 Thank you to Westwood students and staff for their cooperation and participation in HOSA’s Blood Drive. We had a great turn out and we are so proud of our HOSA Volunteers and their work ethic!  

  SLW Centennial’s Navy JROTC Black Talon unit competed in the Florida State Area 7 NJROTC Brain Brawl Academic Championships this past weekend on Saturday, January 28th, 2023, hosted by Gaither High School, in Tampa, Florida. “Alpha” team, c/LCDR Aidan Rossell, c/SCPO Sean Stewart, c/PO2 Jannaya Grant, c/SR Hei Chu and c/LTjg Jade Sikorski, placed 16th out of 32 teams, making it to the semi-finals before being eliminated. “Bravo” Team, c/ENS Casey Scott, c/LT Peyton Mangine, c/SN Nolan Hamel, c/ENS Faith Miller, and c/PO2 Mayreeana Neston, placed 24th out of 32 teams.
