Northport VPK-8 School, using social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter, have brought a whole new level of “Parent and Community Involvement” to the school. Parents, extended families, community members, volunteers, business partners, teachers and students are kept up to date, on a daily basis about information and programs occurring at the school. Village Green’s “Odyssey of the Mind” Team Lands a Win at Regional Competition

Situated between Marianne Futo and Christine Duane are students Dylan Rudd, Adrian Gallardo, Kayla Duane, Leah Murphy, Cody Cox, Matthew Futo, Leshal Ketwaroo A group of Village Green students traveled to Sun Coast Community High School in Riviera Beach, FL to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind Regional Competition. Village Green students in grades 3-5 won 2nd place in the Division I. They chose to participate in Problem 3: Pandora’s Box. Palm Pointe 2015 History Fair

Recently, Palm Pointe school finalists in the 2015 History Fair from grades six and eight celebrated their achievements in a special ceremony and exhibit gallery.  This year’s theme – Leadership and Legacy – challenged the students to research an individual in history who demonstrated extraordinary leadership in his/her respective field, and left a legacy which impacted future generations.  Students selected one of five project options to showcase their research and historical analysis.  Each finalist’s project was then judged using the National History Day criteria, and a maximum of three students were selected from each category to advance to the district competition.  The … Read More

Manatee Academy Students Shine at History Fair

Naiah James and Cade Saenz, 8th grade, placed 2nd and 1st, respectively, at the St. Lucie Schools District History Fair on February 21, 2015 for Individual Websites.  Since neither student had any prior experience creating a website, this was an outstanding accomplishment​! First Graders Learn Sink or Float at Mariposa Elementary

Beth Forbes’ First graders conducted an experiment in science. They predicted items would either float or sink in a tub of water. Each student had an opportunity to gently drop something into the tub. Most of their predictions were correct…however, they had two surprises: a tiny paper clip plummeted to the bottom, and a pencil floated on top of the water! Fort Pierce Housing Authority Recognized for Donation To Dale Cassens

The Fort Pierce Housing Authority was recognized at the School Board Meeting on February 10, 2015. Andrea Kochanowski, Executive Director for Fort Pierce Housing Authority, presented a check in the amount of $1,000 to Dale Cassens Education Complex to be used to support the Spring Fling, the school store, and future Positive Behavior Intervention support activities. Andrea is a SAC member at Dale Cassens. Second Grade Celebrates Other Cultures

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Ms. Schumacher’s 2nd graders at West Gate K-8 rang in the Chinese New Year with their new lanterns. They spent the day learning about China’s culture and customs. They were excited to get their hands on the Chinese alphabet to write to their friends and to decorate their lanterns. They also incorporated math, too! By using rulers, they were able to measure one inch borders around their paper (to know where not to cut!).

Northport Leadership Summit Hosts PSL Mayor, Greg Oravec

It was a sincere pleasure to host Port Saint Lucie Mayor, Greg Oravec recently at the school’s sixth Student Leadership Summit. The mayor fielded a variety of questions from sixth grade Sharks students and interacted with the large group of students for nearly two hours. The Leadership Summits, held in the school’s Media Center, have been host to Florida State Representative, Gayle Harrell, SLC school board member, Deborah Hawley, Deputy City Manager of Fort Pierce, Nick Mimms, a cadre of twelve local veterans and SLC Children’s Services Council Communications Coordinator, Ashley Mock. First Move Chess Program at Mariposa Elementary

On Friday, February 6, Mrs. Yost and Dr. Perry visited Mariposa’s second and third grade classes who were participating in the District’s pilot chess program called First Move. From the beginning of the year, these students and their teachers have learned how to play chess and even to develop strategies as they played the game. Poetry Alive Comes to Visit Morningside Elementary

Poetry Alive, an interactive program that puts actions to poetry and makes it “come alive”  for students K-5th grade was presented on Monday, February 23, 2015.  The students clapped, yelled, listened quietly and responded with gestures.  They have contests and other fun things for students at www.poetryalive.com

Northport Celebrates Black History with Home Town Hero!

With much pomp, circumstance and practice, Northport students gave local hero, Attorney Willie Gary a welcome fit for a “Giant Killer!” Cheerleaders, flags, Northport band and student ambassadors led Attorney Gary to the school gymnasium to be seated on the dias along with Saint Lucie County School Board chairwoman Dr. Donna Mills, principal Glenn Rustay, program coordinator Diane Reynolds Crumpton, program emcee DeLacy Brown, and student speakers. The Number of PBIS Model Schools Doubles in St. Lucie Public Schools

SLPS is pleased to announce the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) Model Schools for the 2013-14 School Year. This week, notification of the PBIS Model Schools was provided from the University Of South Florida (USF). USF manages the PBIS project for the state of Florida, and PBIS Model School status is for the prior school year. Mayor Joins Westwood Cadets at their Military Ball

Ft Pierce Mayor, Linda Hudson, joined the Panther Battalion Cadets for the Annual Military Ball held on Friday, February 13th. Mayor Hudson was the key note speaker for this year’s ball which was held at the Ft Pierce National Guard Armory. Cadets honored traditions such as the posting of the colors, military toasts and the grog bowl ceremony. The Panthers also let their hair down with a catered dinner and lively dancing. On February 20, 2015, Dan McCarty School’s Student Council President Tiferne Jean, along with Student Council Sponsors Dr. Christopher Pierre and Ms. Rhoda Butler, and treasurer Ladarious Burk,  attended the monthly social: Breakfast with the Mayor of the City of Fort Pierce. Northport Students Learn about Cancer and Relay For Life

Northport K-8 students are preparing to participate in the annual Relay for Life to benefit cancer research this year with a variety of activities. Students in grades K- five participated in a Valentine’s dance with music, food and their finest dress up clothes recently. American Heart Association National Wear Red Day

White City Elementary is Implementing Grace Packs

White City Elementary is a school which has 100% of its students receiving both free breakfast and free lunch based on the poverty level of our families. But often, when they go home, there is little or no food to eat. These families have been impacted by loss of jobs, illness or choosing to pay a utility bill over a food bill because of necessity. Maryann Umile Recognized as Senior Volunteer of the Year in Florida
