Dan McCarty Middle School Chorus Earns Superior Rating

The Dan McCarty Middle School Treble Choir recently participated in the District 13 Music Performance Assessment Festival in Vero, FL., earning straight “Superior” ratings in both performance and sight reading. They received an “A” rating from all four judges in every category. This is the highest rating a choir can receive. The judges commented that the students were “very, very well prepared.” In addition, the young singers were praised for their tone quality, technical preparation and musical effect. The chorus is directed by Dr. Rolanda A. Jones.

Dan McCarty Students Win First Place at 2015 District History Fair Competition

The top prize in the Group Website category went to Dan McCarty students, Tiferne Jean, Jr., Jesus Hurtado, and Hakeem Jean-Baptiste for their excellent interpretation of George Washington’s “Leadership and Legacy,” hence, this year’s National History Day (NHD) theme.   NHD makes history come alive for students by engaging them in the discovery of the historical, cultural, and social experiences of the past. Dan McCarty Student Council Representatives Attend Breakfast with the Mayor

On February 20, 2015, Dan McCarty School’s Student Council President Tiferne Jean, along with Student Council Sponsors Dr. Christopher Pierre and Ms. Rhoda Butler, and treasurer Ladarious Burk,  attended the monthly social: Breakfast with the Mayor of the City of Fort Pierce. Mr. Jean had the opportunity to speak in front of some very prominent community leaders and business owners such as City Representative Larry Lee, Executive Director of Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF) Doug Coward, and Mayor Linda Hudson. Dan McCarty Middle School Chorus Participates in Four County Honors Choir Concert

Seventeen students representing Dan McCarty Middle School recently joined their voices with other middle school singers from around the Treasure Coast area to participate in the Four County Middle School Honors Choir at Indian River State College. Each year, middle and high school choruses from Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie counties come together to rehearse and perform a concert with guest clinicians. The students are selected based on their musicianship skills and the recommendation of their chorus director. Dr. Rolanda Jones directs the Dan McCarty Middle School chorus.

Dan McCarty Represented at IRSC’s 2015 Four Counties Honors Band Concert

Dan McCarty Middle School band student, Samuel Quinones, has been selected to take part in the 2015 Indian River State College’s Four Counties Honors Band. Selected middle school students will rehearse for two days with guest clinician, Mr. Dominick Eggan and perform alongside the High School Honors Concert Band and the Honors Jazz Band. Samuel was selected based on his musicianship level and the recommendation of his band director. Winter Wonderful Holiday Concert Held at Dan McCarty

Dan McCarty School held its annual Christmas concert, “Winter Wonderful!” featuring the Chorale Ensemble and orchestra students. The program highlighted the musical diversity and talents of DMS students. The cafetorium was jammed-pack with parents, students and school staff. The orchestra performed traditional songs such as, Jingle Bells, Up on the Housetop, Jolly Old St. Nicholas, and When the Saints Go Marching In. The Chorus also performed traditional songs: Jingle Bells, Angels We Have Heard on High, Deck the Halls, Joy to the World, Hot Chocolate and This Christmas to name a few. Dan McCarty Million Father March Kickoff a Success!

Dan McCarty participated in the National Million Father March Initiative in recognition of the power of male involvement in the education of all students. The Million Father March is an opportunity for all men to show their commitment to the educational lives of their children throughout the school year. Over two dozen fathers brought their children to school and walked them to class to show their support of this national initiative. The father s then joined the administrative staff in the media center for some refreshments. What an awesome way to kick off the school year!

IRSC Health Professions Department Coordinator Visits Dan McCarty Class of 2014

The graduating Eagles earned a visit from Mrs. Michelle Cuba, Coordinator of the Health Professions Department at Indian River State College. Mrs. Cuba spoke to the students in their classrooms about career options that are currently available and in high demand in the health professions, the salaries, and the required course work. She applauded the students for having an interest in the health professions; however, they have to take their current school work seriously in order to be successful academically in high school and college. Dan McCarty School – Feeding Our Children in Need

Child hunger is not just a health problem; it is an education problem as well. When a child is hungry they cannot focus on their studies because they do not know where their next meal is coming from, this is called food insecurity. In a recent Feeding America study, St. Lucie County has a food insecurity rate at 26.7%. Grace Packs is a weekly weekend backpack program that provides necessary food items to students in need. Dan McCarty will be starting this program for its students in need this Friday, April 11.

Dan McCarty students show support for classmates

Six and seventh grade students at Dan McCarty School decided to show their support of the eighth grade students on their quest to pass the upcoming FCAT Writing 2.0 test, so they reached out to the administrative team for assistance. The students asked the administrative team to purchase mints and other goodies to pack and distribute to all the eighth graders on Tuesday morning as kind gesture and show of support. Superintendent Yost visits Dan McCarty and encourages students

St. Lucie County Schools Superintendent Genelle Yost was special guest at Dan McCarty Schools’ January Student of the Month ceremony. Superintendent Yost delivered a very compelling message to the C.O.T.M. recipients, ecnouraging students to remain focused in their learning, set goals and work hard to accomplish them.
