Northport Engages Parents, Families, and Community using Social Media!

Northport VPK-8 School, using social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter, have brought a whole new level of “Parent and Community Involvement” to the school. Parents, extended families, community members, volunteers, business partners, teachers and students are kept up to date, on a daily basis about information and programs occurring at the school. Parents visit the site to catch a glimpse of their own child engaging in an activity or to learn about special programming that takes place at the school. Using social media, the school is better capable of building a culture of family that extends far into the community. Pictures, video clips, information and programming notes are shared through social media. The school is continually announcing to parents and friends to “like” Northport K-8 School at events where parents and families are gathered. For example, Student of the Month, Honor Roll, sporting events, special programming such as the Northport VPK-8 School Leadership Summits that are held on a monthly basis, band and choral concerts and events and a variety of other venues. It takes dedication and resolve to keep social media tools active and up to date so that the entire school community can get fresh, up to the minute information. Northport’s vision aligns with the Saint Lucie County School District’s Vision of partnering with parents and community to become a premier center of knowledge that is organized around students and families. The best way we can accomplish our core business of educational success and achievement is with strong communication to build that family bond and to establish a culture of teamwork. Please consider visiting the Northport K-8 School Facebook page and hitting “like” and joining us on Twitter.
