The Osprey Family at Oak Hammock K-8 celebrate their A-Team for Administrative Professionals Day 2021.  The A-Team was showered with flowers, chocolate and words of appreciation.  They were reminded, day in and day out, they make Oak Hammock K- 8 a better place to be and work. No one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of others. Each of them deserved more thanks than the tokens of appreciate could ever show. Oak Hammock K-8 Traditional and MySchool second grade classes had lots of fun exploring the different biomes. The students were assigned a project that was a collaboration between their classroom teacher, resource teachers and their family to focus on a specific community of vegetation and wildlife.  Students had to choose an animal and research about the animal including its habitat. NPK8 is celebrating the award winning writer, Madison Tredor! ?✍️ In case you haven’t heard, this author was just announced as the 1st place winner of the Florida Retired Educators Association 5th grade essay contest for the state! (“State of FLORIDA!”, as Maddy would add.) She will be recognized at the FREA state conference next month and wins a cash prize! Also notable, this is her teacher, Mrs. Tredor’s 6th consecutive win for St. Lucie FREA and District 9 FREA, and second state win! #NPK8risingstars Northport Is so proud!

The students in Mrs. Mitchell’s class understand subtraction as “taking apart” and “taking from” and were able to solve subtraction problems within 10.  Students used bowling pins to represent numbers from the subtraction equation and solve fluently.

Samuel Gaines of Emerging Technologies 2nd graders have created their Wildly Important Goals (WIG) wall. The students are super excited to track and monitor their progress and growth towards their wildly important goals in the number of sight words read, reading fluency and iReady reading and math diagnostic scores.

CAST fifth graders in Dr. Irwin’s music class put on a rehearsal concert for kindergarten, first and second graders as they practice for their upcoming spring show. They performed “Fiesta,” “Crunchy, Crunchy, Crunchy” and “Party Rock Anthem.” We can’t wait to see them perform again!

On Saturday, April 17th, cadets participated in a car wash fundraising event at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, who generously allowed the cadets to wash cars on their grounds. The fundraiser was very busy, and we served many customers.  Everything flowed well, as we made a system of getting cars through the washing and drying stations. The cadets were broken down into groups of five, rotating into washing, drying, and sign holding stations. This cadet-led event proved to be a huge success for the program.    

Weatherbee 4th Grade Mariners attended their FSA Writes Pep Rally and got pumped up for a great day of writing!  

  Fort Pierce Central has a unique program to offer support to co-workers.  The program is called Cobra Secret Friends. Co-workers are matched by drawing names with the Program Coordinator Sandra Rohn.  The secret is that only the coordinator knows who the secret friends are.  Once matched, group emails are exchanged so they can publicly thank their Secret Friends for little gifts, notes of encouragement, and snacks given once a week or so.  The big Secret Friend reveal will be held at the end of the year. First Graders at White City Elementary started a unit on living things and learned about the parts of a plant. Each student planted a seed and will observe their seed over the next couple of weeks.  Hands on learning is so much fun!

Mr. Lewis’s Student Council members from Savanna Ridge Elementary, met for two hours on Saturday morning to clean-up the campus they love. The three members along with Mr. Lewis walked the entire campus collecting trash. While they beautified the school campus, they discussed how much they enjoy nature and their future goals and aspirations for Middle School.

Throughout the school year, Lawnwood Leopards have been participating in African American History Lessons. School Board Member, Ms. Jennifer Richardson, interacted virtually with students as they discussed the roles and contributions of Harriet Tubman, Barack Obama, Mae Jemison, and other influential leaders.
