VGESS Green Out School Spirit Night with the St. Lucie Mets was a huge success! Thank you to Clover Park and the St. Lucie Mets for hosting our fundraiser. Students came out in their shades of green to enjoy the game and were able to run the bases afterwards. Dean Christopher did a fantastic job throwing out the first pitch of the evening! Thank you to everyone who came out to support VGESS, we appreciate the support!

Fort Pierce Central’s Fall Club Rush was a student involvement Extravaganza! This year’s annual meet & greet was held on Friday, August 30th. During both lunches, Cobra Nation’s courtyard was flooded with students being welcomed and introduced to over 30 student organizations, clubs, teams, and unique interest groups. Club Rush is where new Cobras become part of the Cobra family and returning Cobras sample new groups to join. Fort Pierce Central has something for everyone. Last week we held our Junior and Senior class meetings! We reviewed Centennial’s expectations for graduation, attendance, and discipline. Representatives from Herff Jones were also present to provide information on class rings and all things graduation! Some students walked away with a free class ring or free cap and gown! #cen10challengeaccepted

The PBIS team at Village Green Environmental Studies School hosted their annual Back To School Luau for students who displayed Manatee P.R.I.D.E. this month. Students who participated showed politeness, responsibility, integrity, and effort and we couldn’t be more proud of our little World Changers! Thank you to Kona Ice for your continued support, the kids loved it!

Students in Ms. Swies’s 4th-grade music class practiced Solfège, a singing exercise that especially uses the sol-fa syllables. They learned how to match pitches by echo singing and later adding hand symbols while singing sol, la, and mi pitches. The students were enthusiastic and extremely engaged in this activity. Student engagement is essential to an effective learning experience.                                                                   

Fort Pierce Central High School has a long legacy of Acceleration! Returning to a B rating only spurs us to achieve greater academic success on the way to being a CobrA-rated school. At Southport Middle School, students in Ms. Banken’s class were highly engaged in a Dots and Boxes activity.  8th graders in pre-algebra had to solve task cards correctly to earn one line, with the goal of creating full squares. Students worked in teams of 2 with one student being the player and one being the coach.  Only the player could hold the pencil and work out the problem while the coach could offer verbal guidance and encouragement.  Once the team had answered the question accurately the player marked a line on the board. Third-grade glows crazy for text structure! Students in Ms. Paries’ class focused on compare and contrast. Students are finding clue words to prove that the text is a compare and contrast text.

August 19th was National Aviation Day and the students of Lawnwood Elementary made paper airplanes.  The Resource Team led this PBiS event and students enjoyed learning about aerodynamics.  Students explored vocabulary terms like aviation, aviator, force, gravity, thrust, runway, and so much more.  Teachers supported students as they changed the design of the airplane to see how it affected the flight and speed of the plane.  Overall, it was a fun, engaging PBiS Science Event.  Go Leopards!

In Ms. Roselin‘s 6th Grade math class, the students participated in an around-the-room activity where students took their clipboards and in groups of four, went to four different stations, and solved practice problems involving mixed number multiplication, adding and subtracting decimals and determining place values. This is all to prepare for their next lesson on dividing fractions!

Fairlawn’s school counselor Heather Malone teaches kindergarten students about character education. Students were introduced to Buddy and learned about how every person is different and that is what makes us all special!

Students in Mrs. D’Andrea’s Gifted class are focusing on Central Idea. To start their lesson, Mrs. D’Andrea had a bag of three items: a globe, a plane ticket, and the Statue of Liberty. The students guessed that it described a trip to New York City! Students took the opportunity to create a quick “bumper sticker” of a place they picked. Students collaborated in pair shares and then partnered up when the music stopped to have their friends guess where they were describing. On August 23rd, 2024, Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion cadets participated in the first parking detail honor guard for the senior nights home football game against Royal Palm High School. They directed traffic to the appropriate parking lot, carrying out their task efficiently. This was our busiest game and many obstacles occurred like the amount of parking spaces that were available, which resulted in having to park cars in the grass. The cadets ran this event smoothly with the help of our battalion’s booster club parents. Palm Pointe 8th-grade students in Mrs.Hairabedian’s research group had a Book Tasting. Students were given a selection of books to explore and rate. They picked their top choices and will be participating in a Book Club each week.

Promoting attendance in the classroom in Mrs. Herrera’s 2nd Grade! When these Bluejays have perfect attendance for 10 days in a month -students earn an ice cream party from Mrs. Herrera! ALL students in Mrs. Herrera’s class were present for the first 10 days of school! They Celebrated with an ICE CREAM PARTY today

Southport Middle School had their annual back-to-school pep rally.  During this time students gathered in the gym to listen to SPMS expectations.  Students were also made aware of the character trait for Q1, COURTEOUS.  Students and teachers engaged in some friendly competition to see which team had the best cheer.  Students and teachers also participated in relay races trying to rack up points for their teams.  There was a special appearance made by the school mascot, Ivan the Ibis.  This back-to-school pep rally gears up our SPMS students and increases their school spirit.

While most of us were relaxing in the glow of summer break, Fort Pierce Central High School’s Beta Club swept up 7 wins in the Beta Club National Convention held in Savannah, Georgia! 875 schools across the nation participated. The competition was challenging but Cobra Nation was ready!
