Mr. Tygesson’s 8th-grade Advanced Science students demonstrate their knowledge of the composition of a star by utilizing their artistic ability to create a model of the Sun.
In this activity, students worked collaboratively in groups to create a model of the Sun’s interior layers (core, radiative zone, and convection zone), atmosphere (photosphere, chromosphere, and corona), and solar activity (prominences, solar flares, and sunspots) and implemented the properties of all layers into their model.
Standard: SC.8.E.5.6 Create models of solar properties including: rotation, structure of the Sun, convection, sunspots, solar flares, and prominences.
