For the month of April, the 7th grade students at Manatee Academy K-8 used their PBIS day to recognize student diversity! As a way to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month, the students enjoyed music and laughter together, wore blue in solidarity, and painted murals which pieced together to form a beautiful jigsaw puzzle. #AutismAwareness

This Friday, the Palm Pointe Fifth graders united in the name of science. Led by superhero teachers and our special guest, Water Woman from the Port St. Lucie Utility Systems Education Program, we reviewed Heavy Hitter topics in preparation for the upcoming Statewide Science Assessments.
Palm Pointe 3rd grade students read around the world this week! During the week, 3rd grade classes participated in reading rotations to “travel” around the world and prepare for the upcoming progress monitoring assessment. They read about a different country in each classroom they visited and then made a fun craft or a snack from that country! 70+ students also participated in the Read Around the World bootcamp on Thursday morning where they read about 4 additional countries and completed a jigsaw activity and booklet!
The 4H farm gave an EGGcelent presentation to our Palm Pointe kindergarteners! Kindergarten will be hatching live chicks over the next 21 days. Students will learn about the chick’s life cycle and what living things need. We are so excited for this awesome experience! Thank you 4H Farm!
Cadets from the JROTC Program travelled to Lakewood Park Elementary to take part in a Reading Enhancement Opportunity with Ms. Witkamp’s 3rd Grade Class. Cadets paired up with their “Reading Buddies” and read from books that were pre-selected by the 3rd Graders. Prior to the Cadets’ arrival, the students came up with questions to ask their “Reading Buddies” in order to get to know them better. So much fun at the Oxbow Eco-Center Earth Day Festivities on April 22nd, with our student volunteers, Kyle Thompson (pictured explaining the microscope station with 5th-grade student Ronette), Sydney Saunches-Romero, Jaela English, Aniyah Mathis, Yajaira, and Derica Stewart assisting with the microscope viewing center, the caterpillars, and our trivia game!
Health Sciences teacher Mrs. Barbara Charles and the FPC Medical Academy students traveled to the Cox Science Center in West Palm Beach for a day of interactive learning. Forty-two students got a hands-on learning experience by engaging in a Brain in Action lab and performing pig dissections. This field trip was the first of its kind for FPC’s Medical Academy and Mrs. Charles hopes to create a long-lasting partnership with the Cox Science Center for many future collaborations.
District Champs! The FPC 2022 Flag Football team earned their name in legacy lights! The dream team is comprised of 9th-12th grade friends, sisters, and teammates. From February through April players condition, practice, and put in the effort for greatness. Junior Alyssa Llanos has been playing flag football since middle school and shares that the team’s victory is one shared by all. For the past 3 weeks, Palm Pointe second graders have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. Students researched and wrote about the 4 stages of a butterfly metamorphosis. Finally, students were elated to observe butterflies in their natural habitat. Our community field trip gave our kids the opportunity to witness the signs of spring through a scavenger hunt at the Butterfly Garden in Bedford Park.
Fort Pierce Central students accepted awards and honors at the annual Black History Creative Arts and Essay Contest from Florida’s Southern District Court. Winners include Gabriela Menjivar $300- 1st prize and Tyler Corey $150- 2nd prize. Mrs. Denise Peschio is very proud of our Cobras!
Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Seniors enjoyed a spectacular pep rally and field day! Tug of war, an obstacle course, and the hula hoop shuffle were just a few of the fun activities planned! The day was spent celebrating the amazing class of 2023!!
Students from St. Lucie Public Schools’ (SLPS) Career & Technical Education programs showcased their business ideas during the Entrepreneurship Showcase held at the district office. During this event, students presented their entrepreneurship business plans, food truck business concepts, and more to our panel of judges. This event is a direct connection to the grant awarded to SLPS’ Career & Technical Education (CTE) department. The “Black Talon” Unit held the event at the Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa located in Jensen Beach. First-grade students at Palm Pointe had a fun morning on the farm as they rotated through three stations – the Feeding Trough, Billy Goats Problem Solving, and Old MacDonald’s Farm, where students met Farmer MacDonald himself. It was a great morning of learning about farms, animals, and crops using our math and reading strategies!
Three Port St. Lucie High School culinary students participated in the SkillsUSA State Competition. They each prepared, cooked, and presented a three-course meal all in a timed setting while competing against high school students from across Florida in the SkillsUSA States in Jacksonville, FL Chef Roland Foerster, PSLHS Culinary Instructor was beyond proud of the trio who went far above expectations.

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy MOA Juniors went on a camping field trip to the Florida Keys. They camped at Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge. Students were excited to see the endangered animals (Key Deer, etc) and in addition to being self-sufficient (cooking for themselves and setting up their tents), they had the opportunity to snorkel out of Big Pine on Looe Key. There they had the chance to explore a protected coral reef and see a diverse set of animals including manta rays, reef sharks, parrot fish, and more.
