Treasure Coast Food Bank kicked off holiday preparations again this year by packing 15,000 holiday meal boxes. The 9th Annual Pack the House took place Oct. 20 and 21 at Treasure Coast Food Bank, with hundreds of volunteers packing around the clock and Mosaic Owls stepped up to packing, too! Along with their teacher sponsors, Jasmine Gibert and Courtney Lorange, our Mosaic Youth Advisory members and Student Council members (Middle and High School) attended the event to support this important need in our community. Mrs. Taufa’s Geometry Class just completed a unit of study on Transformations. They learned that a transformation is a manipulation of a geometric shape or formula that maps the shape or formula from its preimage, or original position, to its image, or after-transformation position. Mosaic Owls took this knowledge into Virtual Reality to solve a real-world problem. Our Real-World Problem: Most of us don’t think about where the food we eat actually comes from. Mosaic Digital Academy middle school students came to campus this week to learn about virtual reality. Ms. Linton and Mrs. Shovan are getting students comfortable with the new technology before diving into the mission-based lessons in Math and Science planned for this year.

Mosaic Digital Academy students in Mrs. Schwenger’s 4th-grade class and Mrs. Mimnaugh’s 5th-grade class worked collaboratively to investigate answers to scientific questions. Using the scientific method, students made predictions based on their hypotheses on the following topics: Hydroelectric Power; Mass, Force, and Motion; Sound Energy; Static Electricity; and Chemical Change. Mosaic Digital Academy K-5 students traveled back in time on a fun, interactive historical journey through the Oxbow Eco-center Preserve. Students experienced events from Florida’s history from both a human and wildlife perspective while learning about Florida’s abundant natural resources. A deep look at how humans have altered Florida’s watersheds gave students an opportunity to think deeply about how they can protect this fragile ecosystem they call home for the future.

To celebrate literacy at Mosaic Digital Academy, 5th-grade students in Mrs. Mimnaugh’s class put “Hats on for Reading”, while 2nd graders in Mrs. Lankow’s class dressed up as their favorite word for “Vocabulary Day”. Students also participated in read-aloud sessions and brought out the “Virtual Red Carpet”, wearing red in class to be “Well Read”. Awesome job Owls! #virtualfun #literacyweek

On Friday, April 22nd, 2022, Mosaic Digital Academy 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students participated in the school’s first annual Field Day event. Teachers, students, and families gathered at McChesney Park to participate in Earth Day-themed events such as the Water Savers Race, Save the Endangered Wood Stork Egg Challenge, and the Pizza Box Recycle Relay. Field Day classics like the Potato Sac and Wheelbarrow Races were also entertaining and competitive challenges for owl students. Mosaic Digital Academy instructor, Mrs. Linton, offered her 8th Graders the opportunity to participate in frog dissection lab experiences on campus this week. This introduction to vertebrate anatomy and mature body systems provided students the opportunity to explore the anatomy of the frog while engaging in discussions about adaptations and how anatomical structures are related to their functions.  #MosaicOwlsLoveScience #VirtualStudents #LabDayFun 

Mrs. Thomaselli decided to head to the park where she met up with her 3rd Grade students to develop learning concepts further! When students took the 3rd Grade FSA Practice Test on campus earlier in the month, Mrs. Thomaselli analyzed the practice test results and created fun outdoor review activities to deepen learning on the concepts students struggled with most. Mosaic Digital Academy Middle School students came to campus for an engaging and fun-filled learning experience with peers and their online teachers. Our on-campus days are affectionately called “LIVE DAYS” and oh boy did it live up to its name! Dr. Purnell’s English Language Arts lesson delved into characterization since students are working on writing their own stories in 7th and 8th grade in their online course. Mrs. Dana Tillberg, School Counselor at Mosaic Digital Academy, has been hosting a “Get My Job” series via zoom since the beginning of November.  The series is designed to provide students with opportunities to interact with professionals to provide more in-depth knowledge about career paths and real-life experiences and ultimately to learn what it takes to “get their job.”  The target audience is students in Grades 7-12. Mrs. Lankow’s wonderful Mosaic Digital Academy elementary students honored Earth Day this past week!  After meeting virtually to discuss ideas and brainstorming, students created shared slides for classmates to collaborate on ideas to save our planet Earth! Congratulations to Adam Morgan (11th Grader) at Mosaic Digital Academy for earning the prestigious Eagle Scout accomplishment! As a full time public virtual school student, Adam served on Mosaic Digital Academy’s School Advisory Council and kept up with his online courses as well as his dual enrollment coursework. Serving on the School Advisory Council provided Adam with a keen understanding of not only the successes of our school program, but he also came to know some of the struggles students sometimes experience when separated from their peers as they school from home. Mosaic Digital Academy middle and high school students participated in a FSA Writers’ Workshop with their instructor, Mrs. Amanda Kiefer, this week and became experts at using the State’s writing rubric to score sample writings from http://fsassessments.org/students-and-families/.  Middle grades and high school students will be given either an Informational or Argumentative Prompt on the FSA Writing Assessment on February 28th.
