Village Green students had the opportunity to tour a fire engine and ambulance truck this week. Stacey Carter, from the Fire Safety Program, along with St Lucie County Firefighters, delivered an educational and interactive fire safety message to our students. The firefighters explained the equipment and tools carried on the trucks and the students learned how the equipment might be used in various types of emergencies. This was such a great experience for our students!
On Tuesday, December 12, the Rotary Club of PSL hosted its annual Christmas party for boys and girls who may not otherwise receive anything for Christmas. Mrs. Dohrmann and Mrs. Cortes, our school counselors, accompanied 9 of our Floresta students to this event. The students enjoyed a lunch provided by the Rotary Club, and had the opportunity to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus who brought along a gift for each one of them. They ate cookies, colored Christmas pictures and just had a few hours of Christmas magic.
Congratulations to our middle school dancers who participated in Dancing in December. The show was such an awesome collaboration with Treasure Coast High School and Fort Pierce Central High School. They did an amazing job!
On December 8th, the Treasure Coast High School Titan Ambassadors hosted their 5th annual Shop With a Titan event at Target in Tradition. Each year, Treasure Coast High School students partner with local elementary school students at Windmill Point, Oak Hammock, and Manatee Academy K8 to take kids shopping. Over the last 5 years, Treasure Coast High School students, staff, and their partner schools have raised more than $10,000 and taken over 100 students shopping during the holiday season! SLWK8 third graders in Ms. Pepe’s class worked on multi-digit addition with regrouping. They did an amazing scoot around the room, working with partners to answer the questions. Way to scoot, Sharks!
Mr. German’s 5th-grade Scientists are currently studying types of heat transfers, which are conduction, convection, and radiation. Today the students are investigating solar radiation by constructing pizza box solar ovens which allow the heat from the sun to transfer onto the s’mores. The most exciting part was when the scientists were able to taste the effects that solar radiation has on graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows!
The McKinney Vento Program, with the help of countless donors, packed Holiday Bags brimming with love and essentials last week. These bags were sent out to the schools to go home with their students currently experiencing homelessness. From cozy Bombas socks to Barnes & Noble books sparking imaginations, handwritten cards, and hygiene items, each bag was a personalized treasure trove. This project is a labor of love, but hearing just one student’s gratitude makes every minute worthwhile. In preparation for their upcoming assessment, 5th-grade students in Ms. Herrero’s class collaborated in groups as they rotated around the classroom. They worked to answer questions on different types of energy, such as mechanical, electrical, heat, light, and sound!
The SLW Centennial High School Eagle Regiment Band participated in the 35th Sights and Sounds Parade in Fort Pierce. The Band earned Best Musical Performance for Marching Bands. Congratulations EAGLES!

Lincoln Park Academy Retires the Jerseys of Some of Their Greatest Girls’ Basketball Stars On November 29th Lincoln Park Academy retired the jersey of 3 of the school’s top girls’ basketball stars in the history of their school. This celebration comes in conjunction with the 100th year celebration of the school. Melanie Densen-Rosier (22), a 2002 graduate, and LaQuita Ball (23), a 2003 graduate, had a career high of over 2,000 points scored during their basketball career at LPA. Every year, the Port Saint Lucie JROTC program has the privilege to work with Guardians for New Futures and Communities Connected for Kids, to collect toys for kids during the holiday season. Port Saint Lucie High School staff and JROTC cadets sponsored 20 kids to make sure they have a memorable holiday season. Thanks to the efforts of our teachers, staff, and booster club parents, we were able to collect 60 gifts this year.
During Spirit Week at Oak Hammock K8 School, students dressed up as workers from different careers. Career Day encourages students to focus on their future and prepare for a world of possibilities. Among the students are our future doctors, businessmen and women, public service workers, soldiers, teachers, scientists, and politicians. They are the professionals who Level Up Learning! Level up Success.
Our first graders have a green thumb and are now able to enjoy the fruits (herbs) of their labor! Village Green’s first graders planted basil and cilantro seeds back in September and are now able to enjoy their first harvest. The students really enjoyed watching how a seed they planted can grow and thrive under the right conditions. We are very impressed by our little gardeners!
