On December 6, 2023, the Legal Eagles Club from SLW Centennial High School went on a tour of the United States District Court in Fort Pierce. Hosted by Judge Shaniek Maynard, the students went from Intake, to the holding cells, to the Grand Jury room, to the Courtroom, and heard from a variety of speakers, including: U.S. Marshals, a Federal Prosecutor, a Federal Civil Attorney, Federal Public Defenders, Probation Officers, Court Deputies, a Law Clerk, and Judge Maynard herself. Palm Pointe 3rd graders had a blast at their family and parent engagement event! They enjoyed pizza with their families, learned about grade-level curriculum and expectations, and used their puzzle-solving skills to crack the mystery code!

The Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalions Male Team attended the States Raider meet at Hudson High School on December 2nd. The Raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 3-mile run, 1.25 -mile litter carry, Kettle bell carry, an obstacle course as well as constructing and crossing a rope bridge. The Jaguar Battalion Males brought home a 3rd place trophy in rope bridge and placed 5th overall in the state. In the end, the Male team had a great time participating in such an honorable event such as states. Lastly, congratulations Males for such an amazing raider season. 

Over Thanksgiving break Makayla Megnauth decided to take on the challenge of not only playing way up in 17U as a 12-year-old, but to help a small-town Puerto Rico team (Salinas) as they faced the best of the best that flew in from all over the United States to play on an AllStar team. In 7 games while playing with the team Makayla batted an amazing team high .714. Makayla also got 2 starts pitching as she got the win both times. On Saturday, November 18th, 29 cadets from the Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Battalion hosted a beach cleanup at Dollman Beach, which consisted of the cadets being split into 2 teams such as parking and beach team. In the end, the cadets were able to pick up over 200 pounds of garbage and had a great time cleaning up the beach. 

During the week of November 27th Fairlawn hosted student-led conferences for grades 1 to 5.  Families were invited by the students to come and see all that they have been learning, including their academic goals and progress.  Our students did an amazing job leading their conferences and welcoming their families.

Ms. Emily Royo, Yearbook Advisor at Fort Pierce Central High School, attended JEA/NSPA or the Journalism Education Association and its partner the National Scholastic Press Association conference in Boston, MA November 2nd-4th. Ms. Royo secured a grant sponsoring this incredible opportunity. The convention housed 4,662 High School students and advisors from all over the nation to attend expert classes on all things Journalism. The convention’s keynote speakers were three members of the legendary Boston Globe Spotlight Investigative Team that inspired the award-winning movie “Spotlight.” The one-hour classes took place during the day on Friday and Saturday. Chester A. Moore 5th grader, Nevaeh Estima’s art placed 1st for the St. Lucie County School District. Nevaeh’s artwork will be displayed in Washington, D.C., at the U.S. Capitol for a year, representing our district’s talent alongside winning artwork from participating districts nationwide. In addition, her artwork will be featured on the House.gov‘s Congressional Art Competition page! Sahira Michel’s artistic skills earned her an Honorable Mention, recognizing her impressive skills and creativity.

The Girls on the Run at Lawnwood Elementary had a blast celebrating the end of their season at the annual 5K. Running buddies encouraged students along the way, cheering the girls on. Students learned about various life skills during weekly meetings. Way to go Lawnwood Leopards!

Over Thanksgiving break, Cadets from the Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion partnered with the Big Heart Brigade and prepared thousands of pounds of food for Thanksgiving Day. Our Cadets worked 2-hour shifts where they prepared food 3 days prior to Thanksgiving, then packaged food during a 3-hour shift on Thanksgiving morning. The cadets had a great time helping the community with such a meaningful event.

Ms. Brennan and Mrs. O’Malley’s kindergarten classes learned about Native American Teepee homes. They worked together to build their own teepee using paper, popsicle sticks, and tape. The students had so much fun working together to construct a Teepee that could stand on their own.

Village Green’s Librarian, Janet Sievers, along with Librarians from around the county attended FAME-Florida’s Association for Media in Education.  This is Florida’s State Conference for Media Specialists.  FAME celebrated its 50th conference and it did not disappoint.  There were inspiring keynote speakers and many authors celebrating reading and sharing thoughts, ideas, experiences, and words of encouragement.  There were SSYRA authors who traveled from places as far away as California and overseas such as Cyprus.  Several sessions were offered and attended. We are so proud of our Media Specialist for continuing to learn and grow for her students!

Our second-grade students had so much fun on their first field trip this year to the Sunrise Theatre to watch Steve Trash. Thank you for teaching us all about recycling! Remember to always reduce, reuse, and recycle!

Students worked outside to clean up the parking lot median and parking spots that have been blocked with sand. Inside, students beautified the cafeteria with a fresh coat of paint. We want to give a huge thanks to all the students, staff, and family that came out to this event.  Students, Teachers, Ms. Wonesh and Ms. McAuliff and Family volunteers (Mr. Wonesh and Kim Nolan) drew and painted a variety of scenery for our upcoming play.  

FPC Puts the Fun into Senior Field Day! Field Days are not just for the end of the year, wind-down in elementary schools. Senior Field Day is a Fort Pierce Central High School Tradition. From outside games of kickball, soccer, flag football, photo ops, side-walk chalking and more, to indoor card games and board games, FPC makes time with friends the memorable senior-year moments that last a lifetime. Thanks to the entire senior teacher team and admins who made this great event for our seniors another chapter in the legacy of Cobra Traditions.    

Lincoln Park Academy Theatre’s Troupe 6958 participated in One Act Festival on November 17th and 18th and did an outstanding job! LPA’s theatre department was awarded a Straight Superior rating and received Critics Choice! This means that LPA Theatre will be representing District 15 Thespians at the State Festival in March. Two of their actors received rewards as well; Chloe Jackson was chosen as Best Overall Actress of the festival and Sofia Abraham was selected as All-Star Cast Member! Well done LPA theatre! 👏🏼👏🏼
