On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC took a field trip to the Cape Canaveral Coast Guard Station to visit their Command and Control Center and tour the United States Coast Guard Cutter “SKIPJACK”. The cadets were able to ask questions about the Coast Guard Station’s operations, area of responsibility, and career opportunities.  They were able to walk through working areas of the Cutter as well as don some of the equipment used to during rescue operations. Florida District 21 Congressman Brian Mast visited the SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC “Black Talon” Company last Wednesday, February 18, 2026. On February 27, 2026, the Jaguar Battalion conducted its annual flag retirement ceremony, a cornerstone tradition dedicated to the dignified disposal of unserviceable American flags. The process began with a coordinated collection effort from January 14th  to January 28th, during which designated Cadets and their respective Company Commanders gathered flags from predetermined neighborhoods located near Port St. Lucie High School. Following congressional recommendations for respectful decommissioning, the collected flags were carefully separated into their original colors—red, white, and blue—before being committed to the fire. Palm Pointe historians stepped into the role of entrepreneurs during an engaging Shark Tank-style project focused on the Industrial Revolution. Students researched key inventions from the era and pitched their ideas to their classmates, highlighting the problems each invention solved and its impact on society. Oak Hammock K‑8 recently transformed its campus into a joyful celebration of family, connection, and school pride during its annual Daddy Daughter Dance. A Day of Discovery and New Beginnings at Morningside Mrs. Eibl’s 2nd graders brought their Life Cycles study to life as they watched tiny chicks hatch right in their classroom. Through hands-on embryology, students carefully observed each stage of development, recorded their findings in journals, and asked thoughtful questions that showed growing understanding. They were excited to see science unfold before their eyes and make real-world connections. Once the chicks arrived, the class proudly chose names for their new feathered friends. The day blended curiosity, responsibility, and joy, creating a memorable learning experience that the students will never forget.  

Fairlawn Elementary proudly hosted student-led conferences for students in grades 2–5 last week, creating a meaningful opportunity for families to engage in their child’s learning journey. Parents and guardians were invited into classrooms where students confidently took the lead, showcasing their hard work, academic progress, and personal growth. Throughout the conferences, students shared writing samples, math work, projects, and data that reflected their achievements and goals. Eighth graders researched influential Black leaders who changed the course of our nation and the world. Southport Middle School recently enjoyed a wonderful evening of community partnership during Tip‑A‑Teacher Night at Texas Roadhouse. Students, families, staff members, and local patrons came together to support SPMS, creating an atmosphere filled with school pride and generosity. Teachers enthusiastically stepped into the role of hosts, assisting the Texas Roadhouse wait staff and connecting with families outside of the classroom in a fun and meaningful way. Recently, students in one of our classrooms at Oak Hammock K-8 enjoyed a unique and engaging reading experience as the room transformed into the Martin Café Coffee House. This creative lesson marked an exciting instructional shift toward independent first reads of grade-level texts. Ms. Selinsky’s 7th-grade accelerated math students brought geometry to life through an exciting Dance Dance Revolution–themed lesson focused on identifying and applying angle relationships. As music played, students moved across a floor grid marked with various angle representations and had to place their feet on the correct spots showing vertical, adjacent, complementary, or supplementary angles.
