Students in Mrs. Whitehead’s second-grade classroom at Rivers Edge Elementary received a special visit from Deputy Wheeler as part of a creative effort to encourage reading fluency and celebrate student achievement. During the visit, Deputy Wheeler listened as students read their UFLI decodable books, recognizing those who demonstrated strong fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. Rather than monitoring traffic, she was on the lookout for speedy readers who showcased strong literacy skills and reading confidence. Rivers Edge Elementary continued its new Classroom Connections initiative with a flavorful and engaging event — the Popcorn Pop-Up — giving families a firsthand look at the exciting learning happening in classrooms during the first quarter. Rivers Edge Elementary recently celebrated the official launch of its new All Pro Dad chapter on Friday, September 19th with an impressive turnout of nearly 70 fathers, father-figures, and students.  The event marked the beginning of a year-long initiative aimed at strengthening family bonds and promoting character development through monthly themed gatherings. Mrs. Slappey’s Wilderness Club from Rivers Edge Elementary embarked on another trail expedition, uncovering some of nature’s hidden gems. The students were thrilled to discover an opossum jaw bone, a snake skin, and some enchanting lichen along the way. The experience was nothing short of magical, sparking curiosity and wonder among the budding naturalists.
