On Friday, September 20th, the Port Saint Lucie Jaguar Battalion attended the POW/MIA Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Park to honor prisoners of war (POW) and those missing in action (MIA). Cadets were given a candle to light while a veteran spoke about the powerful sacrifice that the POW/MIA’s endured. The 58 cadets that attended were also able to witness the POW/MIA chair, symbolizing those who have not returned. It was a great honor for all the cadets that attended. 

Southern Oak Middle School recently held an inspiring event known as the Leadership in Me Expo, showcasing the hard work and creativity of its students. Under the guidance of teacher Marvin Williamson, students engaged in a comprehensive learning experience centered around leadership skills and personal development. The expo served as a platform for students to explore various types of leadership styles such as but not limited to, pace setting, transformational, and laissez-faire leadership styles. 3rd grade students at Oak Hammock K8 won a celebration from Texas Roadhouse for having the most sales during a schoolwide fundraising night. The team from Texas Roadhouse and Andy the Armadillo provided snacks, gifts, and an opportunity for students and teachers to learn a line dance. Community partnerships serve to support, strengthen and transform the lives of students. The students had so much fun and look forward to another opportunity to partner with TRH and Andy.    

Mrs. Proctors 7th grade students are playing a game called “Capture the Flag,” to review for their Unit 1 assessment on Solving problems involving rational numbers and the four operations! Working in groups students must answer a certain amount of questions and show the teacher; once all questions for that section are correct, they get to steal a flag (colored sticky note) from another table. The students had so much fun and loved playing the game!

No Power, No Problem! Singing our school’s alma mater on Friday mornings is a weekly tradition at Central. With pride and poise, Cobra Nation braved a campus with no AC and newly restored power on Friday morning after the massive storms from the night before left our campus down two transformers. 5th-grade students in Mrs. Williams’ class had all sorts of learning fun and engagement during their first ELA unit that focused on corn! Students had the opportunity to taste many corn-related products throughout the unit, with corn salsa being a favorite! As a culminating activity, students brought literacy to life by creating and building their very own corn mazes!

Forest Grove Middle School has partnered with THE AMERICAN DREAM FACTORY. Our students have the opportunity to participate in a Video and Photography Team and a 3D Printing Team with this after-school program.

Cobra Families on Campus for SAC, Title I, ELL/ESOL Resources, and Senior Parent Info Session! FPC families were welcomed onto campus by Key Club members. Beginning at 4:00, the School Advisory Council (SAC) inaugural meeting kicked off a full night of information-packed events. Following SAC, dinner was prepared and served by Central’s Culinary Arts program in the cafeteria for families to enjoy. In recognition of “Dad’s Take Your Child to School Day,” students and families participated in Donuts with Grownups! Thank you Dads, Grandads, Uncles, and Families for making this event special and amazing for our Blue Jays! We enjoy connecting with our families and we value and appreciate our INCREDIBLE parent & family involvement and engagement! We celebrate the end of the week with an exciting Friday welcome (bubbles) and the Friday Fun Cart for lunch! Students earn Bulldog Bucks for following the BARK Expectations and can spend them on snacks, treats, and school supplies during their lunch time at the Friday Fun Cart.  

In Mrs. Quiles’ 3rd grade class, students transformed into “Math Doctors” to explore the distributive property through a fun and interactive activity. By “performing surgery” on numbers, they learned how to decompose multiplication facts into simpler parts to solve!    

B-I-N-G-O was the game of choice for September’s PBIS lunchtime celebration. Campus PBIS events are a way for students demonstrating positive behaviors, role-modeling responsibility, and following school-wide expectations to earn extra prizes and be rewarded for their exemplary choices. Students with PBIS tickets gathered in the auditorium during both lunches for some riveting rounds of BINGO! Students show off their winning cards and cool prizes! With pride, great job and way to go Cobras!

At Forest Grove Middle School attendance matters! Even on early release days! Every student in attendance received a sweet treat during their lunchtime.   

We were thrilled to welcome our wonderful grandparents to Bayshore Elementary for a special Grandparents Day celebration! The turnout was fantastic, and it was heartwarming to see so many smiling faces. Our students and their grandparents enjoyed a day filled with fun activities, heartfelt moments, and cherished memories!    

Lawnwood Elementary Staff Members are TREASURE HUNTERS! The faculty and staff members of Lawnwood Elementary participated in a Kids At Hope professional learning opportunity.  Mr. Kevin Singletary, Kids At Hope Training Coordinator & Treasure Hunter, provided a training for the treasure hunters of Lawnwood Elementary.  We believe all children are capable of success, No EXCEPTIONS!  

Third graders enjoyed a guest speaker from the UF/4-H program that enriched our Animal Adaptations unit. They discovered how great horned owls use their feathers for camouflage, vertebrate animals, and how turtle shells offer protection. The presentation also covered how predators have developed specific traits for survival. This engaging session helped students understand the various ways animals adapt to thrive in their environments!

Fifth graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School were excited to celebrate the completion of their reading unit on corn. Over the past few weeks, 5th grade has explored the fascinating world of corn through informative texts. They delved into its history, its significance in different cultures, and even the science behind its growth and uses. To celebrate the end of this enriching unit, they planned a special Corn Celebration Day! This event was a fun and educational culmination of all that the students have learned and experienced.  

This week, our PBIS team hosted an amazing breakfast of Panera, fruit, and Natalie’s juice to express gratitude to our dedicated teachers and staff for their commitment to recognizing and rewarding students’ positive behaviors. Teachers and staff distribute purple tickets to students demonstrating school-wide expectations and making positive decisions. PBIS is a vital school-wide initiative that fosters positive student behavior while enhancing the overall school climate and single-school culture.
