Floresta Elementary celebrated literacy with a Words Get Dressed Up event. Teachers, staff, and students made Everglades-themed vocabulary words come to life with their costumes and visual representations. K-2 families came out to enjoy a special parade of words!

On Saturday, January 27th, 2024, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted its 29th Annual Military Ball at the Santa Lucia River Club. Male Cadets wore their Class A Uniform, and female cadets came in formal gowns. Our Jaguar Battalion Color Guard posted the colors to begin the formal portion of the ceremony. Several weeks ago Forest Grove Middle School geometry students went on an amazing field trip. Below is Mr. Parkinson’s summary of this project and field trip. The artwork of MC Escher has been the real-world model that I have used to educate geometry students about transformations and tessellations since I started teaching. Middle school students explored the Allied Health Certificate offered at many high schools. Students learned about different certificates and related careers and practiced related skills such as how to answer an office phone professionally, file reports, schedule appointments, take blood pressure, clean teeth as a dental hygienist, fill prescriptions like a pharmacy technician, and complete an evaluation as a physical therapist.
Sixth-grade students in Ms. Boham’s STEAM class were learning about Assembly lines and Systems thinking. Students used the Engineering Design Process to design an Assembly line that they then ran twice and timed to see if they could make improvements to the design and improve their time/production.
On Friday, January 19, St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent, School Board Members, and special guests broke ground on the site of the new Fort Pierce Westwood Academy High School. Kindergartens at Village Green Elementary School celebrated the 100th day of school this week! We had the cutest little 100-year-old students engaging in fun activities throughout the day. They practiced counting to 100 with fun and interactive math games. They also wrote about what they would do if they were 100 years old. They read 100 sight words and did 100 exercises throughout the day. They’re 100 days smarter and we are so proud of their growth!
Fairlawn’s celebration of literacy week wrapped up with a school-wide vocabulary parade. Parents were treated to a parade of creativity as our students marched around the school displaying their new vocabulary words and costumes to match.

On January 25, 2024, SLPS held its annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) College Fair at the Fenn Center. This fair hosted representatives from the HBCU and HSI colleges who provided program, application, and scholarship information to prospective students which included SLPS current seniors and juniors. Dan McCarty Middle School also participated. This event was a wonderful opportunity for students and SLPS thanks all participating staff and universities for a great and informative event!
We’re having way too much fun at Morningside Elementary during literacy week! 📚We’ve had superheroes visit campus, had fun with special guest appearances at Literacy Night, and even BINGO on the 100th day of school! We ended the week with a vocabulary parade and guest readers. We love fostering a love for reading in our community.

Students at Lincoln Park Academy had an exciting day as they traveled to the Fenn Center to engage in the start of ongoing communication with college recruiters. They were able to ask pertinent questions relative to their chosen careers and receive valuable feedback that will aid in final decision making. The students, along with their dedicated counselors, report an overall success as they shared valuable experiences resulting from their visit. The recruiters were very motivated while sharing campus factors that their universities promote for overall student success and degree completion.
