From the moment they arrived, students were immersed in hands-on experiences with various specialized units. On May 14, students from Fort Pierce Central High School’s ESE department visited the Culinary and Nursing Programs to learn more about how they work. Students went to the Nursing Program and learned about sanitation and how to properly don and doff gloves. Next, they went to the Culinary Program and learned to how properly set tables and provide a comfortable atmosphere. Students were treated to a delicious meal from Big Apple Pizza. Palm Pointe 8th grade students participated in May the Math Force Be With You – a special event reviewing Math in preparation for next week’s state exams! Students worked hard cooperatively and independently on review questions covering their math standards.  While they had fun solving problems and playing minute-to-win-it challenges themed around the Star Wars universe, the best part was light sabers, of course! In their music resource class, 4th grade students at MSE eagerly learned to play the song “Rabbits” on the glockenspiel. Students began by reviewing both the instrument and how to read simple musical notes. The students practiced carefully, focusing on hitting the correct notes at the right times. They enjoyed the challenge of coordinating their hands and listening closely to the rhythm. As they practiced, they began to play the lively and fun melody of “Rabbits” more confidently. Forest Grove Middle School’s 7th Grade students welcomed guest speakers for a FEMA presentation. It was a great experience for our students to observe how their environments respond to natural weather events. This is a summary of the presentation: The storm water model was in front of the students. Students were told about FEMA’s roll in mitigation of natural disasters. What is missing from our model? With a combined GPA of 3.3, a 93% daily attendance rate, daily after school practices, 87% improvement in overall behavior, late afterschool and weekend games, one championship win, and five berths to semifinals we were able to celebrate the end of our athletic season with a trip to Clover Park for Education Day! Bayshore recently hosted a Mental Health Awareness night, bringing together students, families, and staff to promote mental well-being. Counselors Ms. Alexander, Ms. Cesar, Ms. Mora, Ms. Jones the School Based Mental Health Counselor, Ms. Bonner the school psychologist, and Ms. Napoleon the school social worker, along with teachers, each had booths offering valuable mental health resources. The iMind booth, a community resource for mental health, and Ms. Benton, the Life Skills Parent Educator, provided parent resources. Mrs. Schettini’s 3rd grade AMP (Advanced Math Placement) class is building a thinking classroom—and the energy is contagious! Students are given a challenge, randomly grouped, and encouraged to solve the problem using any strategy they choose. The 9th and 10th grade boot camp focused on ELA students, while the 11th grade boot camp was dedicated to History students.
