Southport Middle School’s Athletic Department held a sports banquet in honor of all our student athletes. Southport’s Athletic Department was created to promote academics through sports and school involvement. The night of the banquet demonstrated school culture where family, friends, coaches, and players all come together to celebrate their player’s achievements. This night, players were recognized for their performance on and off the field in Cheer, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Football, and Track. The Orlando Science Center Visits Lawnwood

The Orlando Science Center visited for an in-school field trip at Lawnwood Elementary School. 5th-grade students were able to participate in various science labs to deepen their understanding and skills. These hands-on experiences provided students with several real-world examples as connections were made. One example of this was the rollercoaster lab. In the rollercoaster lab, students discussed kinetic and potential energy, friction, and gravity as they considered how rollercoasters move. Students in Mrs. Boham’s STEAM class at SLWK8 designed balloon cars to learn about Newton’s laws of motion, potential and kinetic energy, energy transfer, and alternative fuels. Thanks to our outstanding science teachers, our Sharks already knew all about Newton’s Laws of Motion or Inertia. 3D Printing Tops at St. Lucie West K8

St. Lucie West K8 middle school students in Mrs. Boham’s STEAM class tried their hand at 3D pens to create tops. Students applied geometric principles to create circles. They divided them into equal parts to create a balanced top to win a spin-off. Students were able to overcome the learning curve by not only using the pens, but finding the right pacing, and finding what surfaces the filament sticks best release from. On Saturday, April 26th, SLWK8 Sharks had an incredible day at the St. Lucie County Middle School Track and Field Meet at Lawnwood Stadium in Fort Pierce. Morningside 5th-Graders’ Memorable Performance Event

In collaboration with drama students from Port Saint Lucie High School, 5th-grade students at Morningside Elementary experienced the performance of a lifetime. Over six weeks, high school students visited during PE and music resource classes to work with our 5th graders. The 5th graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School participated in their Annual Science Bowl, which was held on Friday, May 2nd. It consisted of four homeroom teams- Team Corley, Team Ferguson, Team Thomas, and Team Venzen. MSE AMP Students Explore Probability with Candy

Mrs. Bolton’s 5th-grade AMP classes compared theoretical and experimental probability using candy. The students first learned how to calculate the theoretical probability of an event and how it can be used to make predictions about the likelihood of the event occurring. Next, they learned how to determine the probability based on actual trials. This activity focused on the relationship between theoretical and experimental probabilities. SLW Centennial High School students have been making a significant impact in their community by assembling food packs for their hungry peers through Grace Packs Inc. This initiative has seen remarkable growth over the seasons, with thousands of Grace Packs being put together for children across the district.
