FLVS Platform will be UNAVAILABLE Beginning Friday, December 1st at 8:00 PM. FLVS has been working diligently to move our learning management system, Educator, to a cloud-based infrastructure. By moving to the cloud, Educator will have higher reliability and increased mobile device compatibility which will improve our user experience. Lincoln Park sophomore Jonathan Geraghty out-performed 17 other divers to capture his first as well as Lincoln Park Academy’s first ever state champion gold medal. Jonathan took control beginning with his first dive and by his sixth dive knew he was on pace for the gold.

White City students are paying tribute to the members of the Armed Forces.  As a part of their writing instruction, students wrote letters and made cards to send to the members of our Armed Forces. Students took time to express their care, concern, and gratitude for those who serve and protect this great nation.    

On Wednesday, November 15th, sixth grade world history students stepped back in time by taking a field trip to the St. Lucie Regional History Center. Students were excited to be joined by the new FGMS principal for the 2017-2018 school year, Mrs. Monarae Miller-Buchanan, and many staff members. All enjoyed seeing and hearing about the early Ais Indians, the later Seminole Tribe, artifacts and displays from the fishing industry, commerce and the furnished Gardner House. Many thanks to the St. Lucie Historical Society and to Nancy, employees, and volunteer staff at the museum.    

West Gate K-8’s Hispanic Heritage Festival was a successful event thanks to the outpouring of community support from sponsors and attendees alike. The event provided an opportunity for festival participants to learn about Hispanic heritage, their community, and share goodwill to those in Puerto Rico who are in need of support.

Students at Southport Middle School celebrated World Kindness Day all week long. The National Junior Honor Society started each day with kindness quotes on the morning news show. They passed around kindness bracelets that included random acts of kindness. They also handed out kind cheerful notes to teachers and students throughout the week. To help celebrate World Kindness Day, students in Mrs. Dudash’s class painted rocks from the Smokey Mountains for fellow students to find and enjoy. Northport Boys to Men program hosted members of the local chapter of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity recently. Harry Williams, Roderick Johnson, Mike Greene and Jack Boatwright attended the meeting to help bring a message of integrity and respect to the boys. The men mentor a group of local boys called the “Lamp Lighters.” Each brought a message about respecting parents and teachers as well as other students. The Grade 5 students of White City Elementary conducted an investigation and they were able to explain that energy can be transformed into sound energy.  Mr. Capozolli, science resource teacher, provided a hands-on lesson to help students hypothesize, predict, and problem solve.    

Morningside Elementary School invited veterans from all branches of the armed forces to join students and staff in a tribute to honor their service to our county.  On Thursday, November 9, the school’s hallway was lined with students waving flags, clapping, and cheering as veterans made their way to the school’s cafeteria. On Wednesday, November 8, the Port St. Lucie High School JROTC went to Village Green Elementary to teach about flag folding and about the Class B uniform to first graders and to fifth graders. The JROTC cadets taught the meaning of the colors and each fold in the American Flag.

Congratulations to Gabrielle Small, a senior from Lincoln Park Academy, for being selected to perform in the 2018 Florida Music Education Association All-State Symphonic Band.  She will be performing at the Tampa Convention Center in January 2018.

The students in Mrs. Langel’s and Mrs. McGuire’s 1st grade class at F.K. Sweet had an awesome time learning about fire safety from the St. Lucie County Fire District!  

On Saturday, November 11th, the JROTC Jaguar Battalion participated in the honoring of all veterans. Alongside Air Force JROTC, Navy JROTC and veterans dating back to WWII, the Jaguar Battalion stood in honor of those who fought to keep our country safe.

Northport welcomed five local veterans into the school media center recently to honor Veterans Day and to teach students about words with very important meanings like service, sacrifice, integrity, grit, education and commitment. The group of veterans are an integral part of the fabric of Northport and they bring their very important message to the children of the school regularly.  Elissa Garcia’s Northstar sixth grade students, Dr. Angela Bennett and Sandra Tyndale-Harvey’s eighth grade students were engaged and asked important questions. Educators coming together to help educators is the underlying theme of this year’s annual West Gate K8 Hispanic Heritage Festival and Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, November 18th on the school’s campus located at 1050 NW Cashmere Blvd. in Port Saint Lucie.  Community members are invited to enjoy music, games, live performances, and a variety of food from 1PM to 5PM. On Saturday November 11, test drive a new Buick and help St. Lucie West Centennial High School located at 1485 Cashmere Boulevard in Port St. Lucie receive up to $10,000. Garber Buick GMC in Ft. Pierce will have new Buick vehicles at the school for this Test Drive Event from 8:00am-3:00pm.  For each 2-3 minute Test Drive, Buick will donate $10.00.  When the event exceeds 100 test drives, Buick will double the donation to $20.00.  The goal is to reach the maximum donation of $10,000 for the day! White City Elementary  is partnering with the community.  The residents of the Lake Forest Park Villa Association provided a lobster dinner to support White City Elementary School. A special thank you goes out to the Lake Forest Park Villa Association for supporting White City Elementary.  Proceeds will be used to purchase school supplies for the teachers and students of White City Elementary.

Southport Middle School’s sixth grade students enjoyed an engaging, positive, and busy day at our annual Sixth Grade Student Retreat. This year’s theme was respect. To begin the day, students met in the gym to give each other positive affirmations in an unusual game of “musical” chairs. They were then split into small groups with adult team leaders and sent out to participate in various team building activities throughout the day to play games and take part in small group discussions. Caroline Duran, Art Teacher at Lincoln Park Academy has once again qualified as a Florida Art Education Association (FAEA) Member Virtual Exhibition Winner.  Ms. Duran was recognized by the FAEA and her peers at this year’s conference held at the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts on October 18th, where she received the Pacon Award for her entry, “Terra Nova,” a ceramic sculpture surfaced with acrylic paint.
