Third-grade Sharks had a blast playing a Jeopardy-style review game as they prepared for their Math DT3 test. Students worked in teams, explained their thinking, and applied the strategies they’ve been learning all year. The room was full of collaboration, encouragement, and excitement as students supported one another and confidently tackled each question. This week, Fort Pierce Central is excited to recognize Mrs. Justice for the outstanding work happening in her Emerging Technology Business classroom. Her recent lesson on career preparation went beyond traditional instruction, giving students meaningful opportunities to practice skills they will use long after graduation. Weatherbee Elementary School was excited to celebrate their Night of the Stars recipients at this year’s annual gala.  Michelle Baker, teacher of the year, Brooke Gagliano, first year teacher of the year, Saily Belfast, school-related employee of the year, and Yahaira Oms, distinguished minority educator of the year, were all honored.  Our representatives and the other stars of the night represent the best of the best of St. Lucie Public Schools Employees.  We all enjoyed our time celebrating the hard work and achievements of everyone.  It was a lovely evening, and we look forward to celebrating again next year.

Dan McCarty Middle School proudly came together to support American Heart Month as staff members wore red and participated in their annual school photo to show unity and awareness. Congressman Brian Mast recently visited Ms. Estrella’s Civics students at West Gate K-8 to speak with them about their work addressing blue-green algae in the Indian River Lagoon. This issue is deeply important to the Congressman, who has worked at the federal level to regulate and reduce water releases from Lake Okeechobee. His firsthand knowledge and expertise provided valuable insight, helping students strengthen their project and continue advocating for clean water at the local level.

On January 31st, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Drill Team traveled to Forest Hill Community High School to compete against eight other schools. The Jaguars delivered an outstanding performance across multiple categories, ultimately securing 1st Place Overall. The team’s success was highlighted by strong results in both the male and female divisions. The SLW Centennial Navy JROTC “Black Talon” Company competed in the Cypress Creek NJROTC Drill Competition on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Navy Drill Competition Field Meets have multiple events that individual school unit drill teams compete in.  These events include an Academic Test, 5 separate drill events, Push-Ups, Curl-Ups, a 16x100Yard relay, and a Personnel Uniform Inspection.  All in all, there are 13 separate trophies that can be earned at Navy JROTC Drill Competitions. As part of Literacy Week, Fairlawn Elementary brought learning to life with an exciting and interactive “Human Scrabble Day.” Students proudly wore a letter of their choice and worked together with classmates to form words, turning teamwork and creativity into a powerful literacy experience.   The SLW Centennnial High School participated in the St. Lucie County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade on Monday, January 19, 2026.  The parade originates on the corner of MLK Boulevard and I Avenue in Fort Pierce. All participants walk about 2 miles and finish near Lawnwood. It’s always an honor and a pleasure for the Navy JROTC to lead the SLW Centennial High School’s progression in the parade.
