Fairlawn Elementary’s second graders put their engineering skills to the test during a fun and creative STEM activity called “Valentine’s Day Sticky Structures!” Students used heart-shaped fruit snacks and toothpicks to complete 12 different shape-building challenges. From triangles and squares to more complex geometric designs, students carefully constructed each shape while learning about stability, angles, and teamwork. During Elementary PE at Oak Hammock K-8, Coach Branim guided our Ospreys through a series of exciting Winter Olympics–themed activities designed to build teamwork, sportsmanship, and overall physical fitness. Students rotated through speed skating, curling, and skiing challenges, each one encouraging them to stay active while proudly representing our Osprey spirit. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as students supported one another, celebrated successes, and embraced friendly competition. Many shared that it was the most fun they had ever experienced in PE, highlighting how meaningful and memorable the event was. The day truly showcased collaboration, effort, and joy in movement.

Kindergarten students at Fairlawn Elementary recently enjoyed a very special visit from our local 4-H club! The excitement filled the room as Ms. Candy introduced two adorable animal friends — Mario the guinea pig and Bowser the bunny. There were lots of smiles, giggles, and wide eyes as students had the chance to see the animals up close and learn all about them. During the visit, students learned important lessons about pet care and responsibility. Students in Ms. Velazquez’s science classes turned learning into action as they designed racetracks to explore speed, distance, and time. Using their knowledge of potential and kinetic energy, students built tracks with loops and tested how much kinetic energy their cars needed to successfully complete the course. Their investigations didn’t stop there—students also explored how energy moves through transverse and longitudinal waves. They created detailed illustrations, labeling each wave’s parts and explaining how different waves transfer energy. Palm Pointe K‑8 has once again shown what it means to serve the community with heart, teamwork, and a little friendly competition. This year, students and staff participated in the school’s Souper Bowl Challenge, an initiative designed to “tackle hunger” by collecting non‑perishable food items for local families in need. From January 26 through February 6, classrooms across the school rallied together, predicting who would win the Super Bowl while filling collection bins with canned goods, pantry staples, and shelf‑stable items. Mrs. Kimball’s classroom project is up and running with enthusiastic, engaged students! The POD area adjacent to Mrs. Kimball’s ESE classroom has been transformed into the Falcon Learning Village. There are 7 stations for the students to interact with hands-on equipment. Weatherbee Elementary’s 5th Grade Literacy in Action! Our 5th grade students are diving deep into literature by analyzing texts with similar themes! Using a hexagon thinking strategy, students compared how Meg and Buck face challenges related to the theme of survival. By making strong connections, discussing how and why ideas relate, and citing text evidence, students practiced explaining how themes develop across different stories.  This rigorous activity met the Florida B.E.S.T. Standard 5.R.1.2. explain the development of stated or implied theme(s) throughout a literary text. FK Sweet’s MOA Discovery Program kicked off their first session with FAU Harbor Branch. The session introduced students to lagoon habitats and wildlife by utilizing scientific tools, examining specimens, and demonstrating how the concepts introduced in the classroom relate to marine science research. Students investigated seagrass beds, mangroves, oyster reefs, and the diverse array of animals that depend on them. Mrs. Schettini’s Accelerated Math students geared up for their upcoming district assessment with Super Bowl–themed fraction centers. Working in teams, students created equivalent fractions, ordered and compared fractions, and measured their best “kicking” distances using math skills and strategy. The classroom was full of collaboration, problem-solving, and excitement as students explained their thinking and supported one another. Career Day in Action! Our students had an incredible opportunity to explore a wide range of Career & Technical Education (CTE) pathways during today’s Career Day experience. Bayshore Elementary wrapped up Literacy Week with a fun and memorable Storybook Character and Scientific Vocabulary Parade! Students showed off their creativity by dressing as their favorite storybook characters or transforming into vivid scientific vocabulary words. Parents lined the outside walkway, cheering and snapping photos as classes paraded by with big smiles and lots of excitement. Ms. Seng’s 6th-grade students engaged in the Sengsational Search, an interactive learning activity inspired by the Amazing Race. Working collaboratively in pairs, students raced to solve multi-step clues that challenged their critical thinking, teamwork, and content knowledge. Each task is connected directly to their Ancient Egypt unit. Students created a detailed tri-fold foldable highlighting the three Egyptian Kingdoms, constructed a mummy model, illustrated canopic jars, and wrote an informational piece explaining the steps of mummification. From the opening tip, the Lady Cobras played with focus, intensity, and confidence, setting the pace for a commanding performance that showcased skill and teamwork.
