At Forest Grove Middle School, Mrs. Proctors’ students loved reviewing through an escape room!!! They had so much fun reviewing MA.6.NSO.3.3 in preparation for MA.6.AR.1.3. Students were able to show their skills with order of operation to solve numerical expressions while trying to escape!

At Forest Grove Middle School, Mrs. Proctors’ 6th grade math classes had an exciting day, filled with learning fun. Students were practicing ratios with Skittles! Students sorted their skittles by color, compared part to part and part to whole, and wrote the ratios three different ways! The students were ecstatic to learn about ratios in a new way!  

Frances K. Sweet is excited to share that they won First Place for Elementary Schools in the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and First Place for Week of Kindness! Students’ kindness activities totaled almost five full days of Acts of Kindness!

The SLW Centennial High School’s NJROTC Navy Eagles “Black Talon” Academic Team traveled to Nova High School in Davie, Florida on Saturday, December 16th, 2023 to participate in their Nova “Brain Brawl” Academic Challenge.  The Academic Team competed against 15 other NJROTC units from South Florida in a “Jeopardy” type academic competition.  Each unit’s team consists of four members and they compete against three other teams at the same time.  So sixteen students are listening and “buzzing” in to answer questions during a 10 to 15-minute round. Oak Hammock K-8 school partnered with Florida’s New Worlds Reading Initiative to provide Kindergarten through fifth-grade families with free books and activities to Level Up reading skills. New Worlds Reading was developed by the Florida legislature to enhance at home reading development and engage families in fostering early reading to increase student success. 40th Annual MLK Jr. Parade “Dream, Believe, Achieve” A very warm and heartfelt thank you to Mr. Schwerer and Mrs. Kelly for organizing Central’s MLK float! Thank you to all the sponsors, coaches, clubs, organizations, and athletes who participated in the parade to make this year an outstanding display of Cobra Pride!

Dan McCarty Middle School teamed up with the City of Port St. Lucie Water Department to provide our AVID students with an exciting event. Students were able to test out their semester-long water tower projects by competing for $2000 in prizes. Each water tower had to be created within weight, height, and budget restrictions and were tested to withstand water intake and flow back out. It was amazing to see our future engineers at work. Thank you, Pierre, Louiza, and the rest of the Water Department team, for helping to make this such a special day for our sixth-graders!

The Duncan Awards are held annually in room 617 at Southern Oaks Middle School. The awards were created by sixth-grade math teacher, Mr. Lioba Duncan. Mr. Duncan gives the awards at the end of semester one to acknowledge high achievement and vast improvement on district tests. Mr. Duncan states that “they are intended as a form of recognition for their achievement from the person who asks so much of them both in academics and discipline.” The school’s principal, Mr. Henry Sanabria, was on hand as an assistant to distribute awards. Students in Mrs. Eibl’s second-grade class demonstrate their critical thinking skills while participating in hands-on math experiences during math stations. Students were observed using bills and coins as they counted, added, and exchanged dollars and coins to solve real-life math tasks.  There is always quality, rigorous work happening at Morningside!☀️

As the first gold status school on the Treasure Coast and a champion of the Everglades, Morningside Elementary was proud to host this learning opportunity for teachers around St. Lucie County. The teachers participated in some of the activities designed for students in K-5 classrooms. They created posters of endangered Everglades animals, created a 3D representation of the watershed system, raced to match the animals with the habitats they are found in, and spent the morning learning about this essential part of our ecosystem.

Giselle Arana Cisneros, grade 10 –violin Lincoln Park Academy, performed with the Florida Orchestra All-State High School Honors Orchestra, and Christine Gergely, grade 8–viola, performed with the All-State Middle School Orchestra in Tampa during the 2024 Florida Music Education Association Professional Development Conference.  Both students are members of the Orchestras at Lincoln Park Academy, under the direction of Ms. Laura Hopkins.

Morningside teachers know that play is powerful! Students in kindergarten are enhancing their oral language development and vocabulary with Play with Purpose (PWP). Students read books and take on roles to enrich their play. PWP gives students a chance to model eye contact when speaking and listening, use correct language skills, explore other people’s viewpoints, and disagree in a positive way.

Congratulations to the Competition Drill Team! George Rahming Jr. was recently honored with a prestigious Florida Music Educator Service Award at the Florida Music Educators Conference in Tampa, Florida.  Known for his innovative teaching methods and unwavering commitment to student success, Rahming has left a lasting impact on both his students and the educational community.    

Fifth-grade students in quarter 2 who made 95-100% attendance and had zero referrals enjoyed a gourmet meal catered by Chef Tamesha Spivey and Chef Oscar.

We have some “Royal Readers” in Mrs. DaCosta’s class. These students were caught staying focused in their literacy center today. Students earned a certificate and a bracelet! Keep up the great work Royal Readers!

The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC Navy Eagles “Black Talon” Company volunteered to participate in the Port St. Lucie’s Toys for Tots program.  The “Black Talon” Cadets volunteered to work on December 16th, 17th, 19th, and 20th, 2023, to assist the Toys for Tots program in providing gifts for underprivileged children in the Port Saint Lucie area.  Hopefully they will allow them to have a holiday to remember.  Families that need assistance to provide toys and gifts for their children can reach out to the Toys for Tots program if they need a little help during the holiday season. … Read More
