Our October PBIS Event was a slam dunk! SLWK8 students were excited and thoroughly enjoyed the Cen10 Coed Basketball game. Shark Nation would like to thank and shoutout St. Lucie West Centennial High School and their amazing basketball players and cheerleaders!

Students from Mrs. Schettini’s 3rd-grade math class identified lines of symmetry in various figures. One strategy they utilized was using a mirror to ensure that they were seeing “mirror images ” on the other side. It was a fun way to practice a new skill!  

A sweet and engaging math adventure with our Candy Corn Marshmallow activity! Ms. Quiles’s third graders explored geometric reasoning by using colorful candy corn and marshmallows to create points, lines, line segments, and rays. Through hands-on building and problem-solving, students strengthen their understanding of geometry in a fun, interactive way. Make learning math a treat!

Mrs. Boham’s STEM students used their creativity, math, art, entrepreneurship, and cooperation skills to design sweet new candy bars! Middle school STEM students in Mrs. Boham’s class showed off their sweet tooth design skills to create innovative candy bars. Working as cooperative groups they used pros & cons to pick the groups best idea to develop into a new product on the market. They sourced nutrition facts for ingredients, researched the market for eye catching wrapper designs, flavors, and prices. The Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion competed at the Jupiter Raider Meet at Jupiter High School on October 19th. Port St. Lucie High School was amongst 11 schools from across the state of Florida competing. The raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 3-mile team run, 1-mile litter carry, 35-pound kettlebell carry, a fitness challenge, and constructing and crossing a rope bridge. The Jaguar Battalion Female and Male team captured 1st place overall, keeping a streak of 2 competitions in a row. Both teams and the mixed team will compete in the Southfork High School Raider Meet on October 26th at Southfork High School.

These individuals were selected by their peers for their exceptional dedication and commitment to excellence. Every VPK – Grade 4 class selected a Hispanic Country.  Students were engaged as they learned about Hispanic cultures, foods, traditions, and music.  The teachers and students created a display board to showcase what they learned about their country.  A special thank you goes out to Laurie Boyer, D’Jion Jackson, Shemair Dorelus, Kim Jay, Jodie Certosimo, and Michael McCarthy for coming out to view the displays and select the winning classes. Overall, it was a great opportunity for students to work collaboratively and learn about Hispanic Countries.  GO LEOPARDS!      

Mrs. Whitehead’s first-grade class celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with an exciting art project. Each student was given a paper hand to create a flag that represented different Spanish Countries. Four students enthusiastically presented influential figures in Hispanic heritage, showcasing their unique contributions to culture and history. Each student took turns sharing stories about their chosen individual. It was a wonderful way to appreciate the rich diversity of Hispanic cultures and to celebrate their differences while having fun!        

Congratulations to Village Green’s 100 Club Members! We are so proud of our students and teachers who achieved an incredible milestone by scoring 100% on their Unit and District Tests. To celebrate this achievement, our talented students and dedicated teachers gathered at Celebration Station to enjoy a special treat. A big shoutout goes to the teachers, who earned a special gold star for having the most participants in the 100 Club! Your hard work and encouragement play a significant role in our students’ success.

Girls on the Run at Morningside Elementary is back up and running after some time off due to the hurricane!   This wonderful organization teaches girls confidence and life skills through engaging weekly lessons.  The girls are currently learning about making positive connections with new friends.  They are also hard at work outside running laps to prepare themselves for a community 5K later on in the school year.  The coaches are very proud of how motivated and hard-working the girls have been!

VGESS faculty and staff wore orange for UNITY DAY!

Plory’s Prize Patrol swept through the halls and into classrooms, awarding students who met their i-Ready goals for the month of September. Students cheered each other on as names were called out. Students are experts at monitoring their own minutes, as well as encouraging peers.  

Congratulations to the Boy’s Golf Team (Aiden Shaw, Jaden Peterson, Malachi Davis, Bryce Shaw, Luke Goothouse, and Joey Rizzello) for winning the Al Griffin County Championship on October 15. The boys competed against 7 schools in the county and after 3 years of getting second place, they earned the trophy back! Special congrats to Jaden for shooting a 5 under and winning the individual county championship for the 5th year in a row. On to Districts October 28th! Go Greyhounds!

All LWN families were invited to attend our Annual Hispanic Heritage Family Night.  Together we learned about the contributions of influential Hispanic Americans like Roberto Clemente, Sonia Sotomayor, and Cesar Chavez.  A delicious taco dinner was provided as we celebrated Hispanic/Latin music and culture. It was another awesome LWN family night!  GO LEOPARDS!

Staff at Lakewood Park Elementary partnered with American Smoke BBQ Company to support the community after Hurricane Milton destroyed homes and left many without power for days.  The team of volunteers provided free hot meals from the food truck and collected and passed out essential supplies on Saturday and Monday.  Families were invited to enjoy free food while spending some quality time with neighbors.  Thank you to American Smoke BBQ and to all who donated items and volunteered their time for these events!

Lincoln Park Academy Middle School students completed the Student Council elections on Monday, September 30, 2024.    The middle school student council elections were a resounding success, with an impressive participation of 646 students. The students eagerly took part in the voting process and cast their ballots in their social studies classrooms. Not only did they vote online to choose their candidates, but each social studies teacher also conducted a mock election, complete with voting booths, ballots, and the experience of waiting in line – allowing the students to fully immerse themselves in the democratic process.    Social Studies teachers … Read More

In celebration of a successful unit of study on Space, 5th-grade students at Village Green Environmental Studies School eagerly wanted to do a roundup of activities centering on the unit’s learning.  Students in Dr. Venzen’s Science class chose activities on creating an image of the sun (the Star of the Solar System), comets, and the phases of the moon, as some of their cherished learning experiences.

**Hispanic Heritage Night Shines at Dan McCarty Middle School** On Monday, October 7, Dan McCarty Middle School came alive with a vibrant celebration of Hispanic culture during our annual Hispanic Heritage Night. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion hosted the First Raider Meet of the season on October 5th, 2024. The cadets who volunteered to help run the raider meet had an essential role in making sure the raider meet went smoothly.  The raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 3-mile team run, 1-mile litter carry, 35-pound kettlebell carry, fitness challenge. Overall, the Battalion’s Male and Female team finished 1st overall and the Mixed team finished 1st in fitness challenge. All three teams will compete in the South Fork Raider Meet on October 12th with expectations to keep our winning streak going.
