Savanna Ridge Elementary’s 5th grade students in Mrs. Spencer’s class enjoyed learning about living organisms through various projects and activities. Celery Experiment – Explored the process of water moving upward through the plant’s stem and into the leaves. Mrs. Avra’s Ceramics II students started off the year by sampling a dozen textures. Texture is an Element of Art that describes and interprets the perceived or actual surface feeling of an object. Students were encouraged to investigate textures from nature by taking a walk outside, exploring their homes from garage to kitchen, and observing textures during their day-to-day lives while filling up a sketchbook page of 12 texture thumbnails, some in color, exploring high contrast, overlapping, depth, and the four qualities of line: thin to thick, light to dark, straight to undulating, and continuous to interrupted. Palm Pointe had their first Sit With A Friend day! Students who paid 10 Rocket Fuel were able to sit with friends from other classes during lunch time as a part of their P.B.I.S program.

21 Century students at CAM created paper laptops. They colored, cut, and glued their internal computer components into their paper motherboards. This skill will help them to identify alphabet keys on a keyboard.

Kindergarteners at Fairlawn Elementary have been working hard learning their numbers and counting to ten! Mrs. Reeve’s students counted together to ten while working on the carpet and showing what they know!

Gardening Club President, Senior Jessica Aguilera tends to the newly planted and sprouting microgreens and gourds in the hydroponics unit. The FPC Gardening Club is operating in its second year. Students have been planting fall season seeds and germinating Florida-hearty plants. From adding to the collective compost and churning new soil, Gardening Club members get the full experience of planting and growing from the ground up. Scientists use models to help them visualize things that are difficult to see and understand. Our 5th graders made models of the Respiratory system, Muscular/ skeletal system, and digestive system and dissected a flower to help further their knowledge of living things.

Eighth graders in Mr. Nicks’ science class at Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies (SGAET) identify unknown compounds by testing their chemical properties. pH indicator (Anthocyanin) was made by boiling red cabbage and collecting the purple solution that was produced. This indicator changes color based on the acidity or alkalinity of the substance it is added to. Students made observations on the color change in their lab reports and attempted to identify the unknown substances based on the known pH of common household solutions. Students at Treasure Coast High School redeemed their Titan Tickets at the new PBiS spin prize wheel. The students had a blast and are looking forward to next Friday for more prizes. Titan Born, Titan Bred!

Students at Southport Middle School share melodies of joy and enjoy singing a tune during the after-school Karaoke Club. They have the option to choose songs and sing along in either groups or solo, and their melodies inspire diversity as they expose their peers to their different musical tastes.

Mrs. Brick’s 6th grade MOA students are learning how to test the salinity of water using refractors. Students are also working with triple beam balances to determine the mass of a variety of objects.

Mr. Parkinson’s 8th grade Geometry students utilize a variety of engaging techniques to solve problems. Students are using manipulatives to organize proofs that prove angle relationships with parallel lines.

On Friday, September 15th, the Port Saint Lucie Jaguar Battalion attended the POW/MIA Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Park to honor prisoners of war and those missing in action. Cadets were given a candle to light while guest speaker Retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Army Bobbie Williams spoke about the powerful sacrifice from the POW/MIA’s. Cadets were also able to witness the unveiling of the POW/MIA chair which symbolizes those who have not returned. It was a great success for all of the cadets that attended. 

The Treasure Coast High School FBLA Club members organized their yearly carwash fundraiser on Saturday, September 16th. In the time span of 3 hours, members worked extremely hard washing, drying, and advertising for the carwash. Titan Born, Titan Bred!
