Southport Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr.

Southport Middle School teachers, staff, and students came together to commemorate Martin Luther King’s legacy.  Southport band students, led by Mr. Brandon Pasquence, played a variety of songs. Our cheerleading squad, led by Ms. Jennifer Filippini, performed numerous cheers.  Ivan the Ibis, Southport’s mascot, was represented by 8th grader and student council president, Michael Nevin-Demmons.  Coach Zoerhof, along with several student athletes were also in attendance. The artwork created by Southport’s students, all focused on the theme “Change Begins with Me,” was showcased throughout the float. Southport Middle SRD Helps Out in the Weight Room

At Southport Middle School, Physical Education classes host an array of sports. Southport students have the opportunity to learn how to improve their health in a variety of ways.  During third quarter our physical education coaches are focused on flag football, whiffle ball, and handball.  Twice a week, our coaches switch things up by also offering weight training, capture the flag, and a variety of outdoor sports. MSE 2nd Graders Learn to Tell Time Through Teamwork

In 2nd grade at Morningside Elementary, students enthusiastically participated in a collaborative activity that was focused on telling time. Working in groups of four, each team discussed various clocks and determined the correct times together. Once all members reached a consensus, they recorded their answers on individual cards. The room was filled with lively conversation and cooperation, as students encouraged one another and shared strategies. This year’s Mel Fisher Pop-Up Museum’s theme is “The Bermuda Triangle.” Media Specialist, Mrs. Sievers, has put together the 8 panels that the Museum consists of for her students to enjoy over the past few weeks. January 16, 2025, marked a momentous occasion in Fort Pierce as community members, partners, and volunteers gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the People’s Garden. The event celebrated the culmination of hard work and dedication that brought this wonderful project to fruition. We are thrilled to announce some incredible news regarding Lincoln Park Academy’s athletic wrestling program. For the very first time in the history of our program, the Lincoln Park Academy boys wrestling team has achieved the title of District Dual Champions! In Mrs. Enoch’s and Pank’s Writing and Science Lab, students enthusiastically participated in the interactive game “Eat or Be Eaten.” This engaging educational tool allowed them to actively construct food chains, providing a hands-on learning experience. Through the game, students explored the intricate relationships within ecosystems, gaining a deeper understanding of the roles of various organisms. They learned about producers, which are typically plants that create their own food through photosynthesis. Shark Chefs from Ms. Tremblay’s Culinary Class completed their Entrepreneurship Unit! Students were thrilled to create their vision for a Food Truck. On the final day before class presentations, Teppan Nyoko, one of SLWK8’s Business Partners came to teach and support our students. SLWK8 Sharks Sweeten the End of Semester and 2024

Mrs. Boham’s SLWK8 STEAM SHARKS added a touch of mint to sweeten the end of their semester and year.  Previously, students designed candy bars and then voted to pick the favorite from each class, then an overall favorite for all classes. The winning bar was “Snowy Days” which was created by 7th graders.  Students layered in the fun when they proved themselves as chocolatiers and made a batch of the bars for themselves. While not ready to go into full production, the candy bar was a yummy treat to enjoy before winter break. Students truly enjoyed and loved their delicious designs!

Gnome For the Holidays: VGESS 1st Grade Performance

The 1st Grade Holiday Performance was truly a show-stopper! Each little star shone brightly, sharing their joy and creativity with us all. Their hard work and enthusiasm made every moment so special. A heartfelt thank you to our talented young performers, families, and the wonderful teachers who helped bring this magical event to life. Dr. Reynolds, Village Green’s music teacher, truly outdid herself with this year’s “Gnome for the Holidays” program. VGESS 4th graders were included as special guest narrators for the show. Our village knows how to put on a performance and we can’t wait for the next show!

FGMS: Grade 8 Advanced Science Class Creates Model of Sun

Mr. Tygesson’s 8th-grade Advanced Science students demonstrate their knowledge of the composition of a star by utilizing their artistic ability to create a model of the Sun. In this activity, students worked collaboratively in groups to create a model of the Sun’s interior layers (core, radiative zone, and convection zone), atmosphere (photosphere, chromosphere, and corona), and solar activity (prominences, solar flares, and sunspots) and implemented the properties of all layers into their model. Standard: SC.8.E.5.6 Create models of solar properties including: rotation, structure of the Sun, convection, sunspots, solar flares, and prominences.

Southport Middle Keeps Their Bus Drivers Warm

What an epic day at Village Green Environmental Studies School! A whopping 222 students with perfect attendance during the month of December turned into wall-hanging artists as they taped our amazing Assistant Principal, Mrs. Drost, and Principal, Mrs. Boria to the wall in the cafeteria for everyone to see.
