Johnny Appleseed Day Celebrated at Palm Pointe

Together kindergarten students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition learned all about Johnny Appleseed and how he was a good citizen, we also recognized that he was an important part of our history. Students were invited to dress up like Johnny Appleseed and bring an apple dessert/treat to school to share with their class. While learning about people of the past, kindergarten students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition dressed up like Johnny Appleseed. Together, students created a timeline of the important events in Johnny Appleseed’s life. John Messina recognized for state honor

St. Lucie West Centennial High School athletic director John Messina was recognized at the May 14, 2013, St. Lucie County School Board meeting for his recent induction into the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Hall of Fame. Coach Messina has a long list of distinguished achievements in the coaching category. Northport K-8 School hosted bullying expert Joe Wojcik, better known as “Joe the Biker,” recently in the school gymnasium. Joe held two sessions divided into grades sixth through eighth and grades third through fifth. Students filled the school bleachers and sat eagerly on the floor in both sessions to listen to “Joe the Biker” talk about how he was bullied as a child, how it affected his life, how to know if it really is bullying and how to empower oneself, find one’s own special talents and feel awesome about oneself. Jellybeans + Graphs = Sweet Success at St. Lucie West K-8

Shark Nation third graders enjoyed a sweet math lesson while working with a partner to collect and organize data using 30 jellybeans. Students sorted the jellybeans by color, carefully counted each group, and recorded their results. They then represented the data in two different ways by creating a bar graph and a pictograph. This hands-on activity helped students strengthen counting skills, compare quantities, and understand how the same information can be shown in multiple representations. Jeffrey Johnson Honored

The School Board extended congratulations to St. Lucie Public Schools Teacher of the Year Mr. Jeffrey Johnson who is an exceptional student education teacher at Dale Cassens Educational Complex. Last week, during a meeting of Florida’s Cabinet, Governor Rick Scott recognized Mr. Johnson along with four other  Teachers of the Year from across the state with the Governor’s Shine Awards. Jazzy Jags Takes Lunch to Paris

Port St Lucie High’s Culinary Program students and Chef Foerster took lunch to Paris!  Students in the Jazzy Jags Café prepped, cooked, and served delicious lunches Parisienne Style; Croque Monsieur with baked ham, Gruyere cheese and dijon on brioche slices browned until the cheese melted served with Salad Orientale, and Pommes Frites (French Fries!).  Delicious!  Level Up CTE!

Jazz Bands from Palm Pointe Perform

On February 1st the Jazz Program from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition sent two middle school jazz bands to the District 13 Florida Bandmasters Association Jazz Music Performance Assessment. As the only groups from St. Lucie County, they were proud to participate and represented our county with pride. The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) is proud to celebrate January as National Mentoring Month. This nationwide initiative is in its 18th year and is a means of celebrating and promoting the value of mentoring to the students of Florida.
