Northport lower school students are collecting funds and skipping rope to help save lives. Northport physical education instructors have organized the event to encourage students and families to help the American Heart Association. Education is the key to service!

July Programs – Hurston Library

Entertain the entire family this July with a host of programs at the Zora Neale Hurston Branch Library. Storytime Jam runs every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for ages 2-5. JROTC Program for Accreditation (JPA)

The Honor Unit with Distinction is the highest award a JROTC unit can earn; it’s represented by a gold star. Keeping the gold star is a big deal; it reflects how hard the Battalion has worked. This is a triennial inspection from the US Army to determine whether a unit can keep their gold star. The Army inspects eleven areas such as Battalion staff interviews, cadet and instructor portfolio inspections, Drill, color guard, cadet briefings, and in-ranks inspection. JROTC Panthers in Action

The JROTC Panther Battalion at Fort Pierce Westwood High School recently conducted their annual service learning project. This year’s project was a campus clean-up, coinciding with Earth Day. Service Learning is a teaching and learning methodology that connects classroom curriculum with identified community issues and needs. Service Learning engages students in projects that serve the community while building Cadets’ social awareness. Cadets collected more than 40 bags of trash and 3 truckloads of solid waste. They also cleaned up the signs around the school. Cadets are continuously working every day to improve the school’s appearance!

JROTC Males Raider Team Competes at States

The Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalions Male Team attended the States Raider meet at Hudson High School on December 2nd. The Raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 3-mile run, 1.25 -mile litter carry, Kettle bell carry, an obstacle course as well as constructing and crossing a rope bridge. The Jaguar Battalion Males brought home a 3rd place trophy in rope bridge and placed 5th overall in the state. In the end, the Male team had a great time participating in such an honorable event such as states. Lastly, congratulations Males for such an amazing raider season. 

JROTC Jaguars Sponsors the Holiday Toy Drive

Every year, the Port Saint Lucie JROTC program has the privilege of working with Guardians for New Futures and Communities Connected for Kids to collect toys during the holiday season. Port Saint Lucie High School staff and JROTC cadets sponsored 25 kids, giving 3 toys each to ensure a memorable holiday season. Thanks to the efforts of our teachers, staff, and booster club parents, we were able to collect 75 gifts this year, and looking forward to seeing these kids open these presents on Christmas morning. JROTC Jaguars Sponsor the Holiday Toy Drive Fundraiser

Every year, the Port Saint Lucie JROTC program has the privilege to work with Guardians for New Futures and Communities Connected for Kids, to collect toys for kids during the holiday season. Port Saint Lucie High School staff and JROTC cadets sponsored 20 kids to make sure they have a memorable holiday season. Thanks to the efforts of our teachers, staff, and booster club parents, we were able to collect 60 gifts this year.

JROTC Jaguars Beach Clean-Up

On Saturday, November 18th, 29 cadets from the Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Battalion hosted a beach cleanup at Dollman Beach, which consisted of the cadets being split into 2 teams such as parking and beach team. In the end, the cadets were able to pick up over 200 pounds of garbage and had a great time cleaning up the beach. 

JROTC Jaguar Cadets Compete at Area 3 Air Rifle Meet

On Friday, December 19th, 2023, the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s Marksmanship Team competed at Santaluces High School for the Area 3 Air Rifle Match.  Our cadets: First Lieutenant Yurem Garcia, Private First class Briannna Locklar, Corporal James White, and Private Kohl Aguilar competed against twelve other schools from three counties and overall placed 4th. Sadly, since the marksmanship team won’t be competing in the states rifle meet, the marksmanship season is over till next year. Thank you to our marksmen and our supportive parents.

JROTC Jaguar Battalion Raider Team Competes

On Friday October 19, 2018, Port St. Lucie High School’s Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s Raider Team attended the South Fork Raider meet. We competed against eight other schools through multiple events. Our male and female teams participated in five events including: three-mile run, rope bridge, cross country rescue, etc. Our first male team won 1st overall and ranked first place in the three-mile run and rope bridge. Our second male team won third overall. Lastly, our female team ranked second overall and placed first in the three-mile run and cross-country rescue.  

JROTC Cadet Leadership Camp

Cadets of the Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion participated in the annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Camp which took place at Camp Tanah Keeta in southern Martin County.

Jr Rangers at Morningside

It was an exciting day for Mrs. McKenna’s and Mrs. Eibl’s classes. After a school year of learning with Ranger Brendon and Ranger Karen about the habitats, animals, and plants that are found right here in our Florida State Parks, students were officially sworn in as Junior Rangers! We can’t wait to see the difference they make in years to come!

Journalism students create and donate childrens books

Students in Keva Miller’s journalism classes at Fort Pierce Central High School created children’s books to donate to a local daycare and elementary school.  The students were required to produce their own children’s stories with a moral or lesson learned, draw, trace, or use computer graphics for their pictures and other instructions and requirements that were given to them in a rubric for creating their children’s books.  The students enjoyed writing, illustrating and designing their children’s books to inspire other students to learn and develop a love for reading.

Joule Jeeps at CAST

CAST fifth grade students in Ms. Broderick’s and Mrs. Wyatt’s classes built simple machine cars, powered using renewable energy, to demonstrate how energy can be transformed from one form to another. These students used Joule Jeep kits from our LEGO Makerspace to create vehicles powered by mechanical energy from their hand generators which was transformed into electrical energy to propel their Joule Jeeps forward.
