Lawnwood Students Are Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

All LWN families were invited to attend our Annual Hispanic Heritage Family Night.  Together we learned about the contributions of influential Hispanic Americans like Roberto Clemente, Sonia Sotomayor, and Cesar Chavez.  A delicious taco dinner was provided as we celebrated Hispanic/Latin music and culture. It was another awesome LWN family night!  GO LEOPARDS!

Lakewood Park Elementary Partners With American Smoke BBQ Company To Support the Community After Hurricane Milton

Staff at Lakewood Park Elementary partnered with American Smoke BBQ Company to support the community after Hurricane Milton destroyed homes and left many without power for days.  The team of volunteers provided free hot meals from the food truck and collected and passed out essential supplies on Saturday and Monday.  Families were invited to enjoy free food while spending some quality time with neighbors.  Thank you to American Smoke BBQ and to all who donated items and volunteered their time for these events!

Lincoln Park Middle School: Student Council Elections

Lincoln Park Academy Middle School students completed the Student Council elections on Monday, September 30, 2024.    The middle school student council elections were a resounding success, with an impressive participation of 646 students. The students eagerly took part in the voting process and cast their ballots in their social studies classrooms. Village Green Environmental Studies School Explore Space

In celebration of a successful unit of study on Space, 5th-grade students at Village Green Environmental Studies School eagerly wanted to do a roundup of activities centering on the unit’s learning.  Students in Dr. Venzen’s Science class chose activities on creating an image of the sun (the Star of the Solar System), comets, and the phases of the moon, as some of their cherished learning experiences.

The Jaguar Battalion 1st Raider Meet

The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion hosted the First Raider Meet of the season on October 5th, 2024. The cadets who volunteered to help run the raider meet had an essential role in making sure the raider meet went smoothly.  The raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 3-mile team run, 1-mile litter carry, 35-pound kettlebell carry, fitness challenge. Overall, the Battalion’s Male and Female team finished 1st overall and the Mixed team finished 1st in fitness challenge. All three teams will compete in the South Fork Raider Meet on October 12th with expectations to keep our winning streak going. 

SLWK8 Explores the Exuberant Art of Romero Britto

In honor of Hispanic Hertiage Month, elementary art students in Ms. Nedrow’s class learned about Miami based Artist Romero Britto. Britto is a Brazilian artist, painter, and sculptor. He infused elements of cubism, pop art, serigraphy and graffiti. His patterns are filled with bold patterns that express hope, dreams and happiness! They chose from 3 different Britto templates and filled them with bright colors and fun patterns. Elementary also learned about texture by creating cute monsters using crayon rubbing techniques.

Port St. Lucie High School Shines

On Saturday, September 28th, 2024, the Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion conducted their first car wash of the school year at O’Reilly’s, located off US-1. Cadets were placed in different stations, such as the washing, drying, and sign–holding stations. Overall, the cadets were able to work as a team to showcase their leadership skills as they completed their tasks.

A Great Grandparents Day at Manatee Academy

Grandparents Day at school is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the bonds between students, their families, and the community. Manatee Academy K-8 welcomed grandparents on 9/06 to be a part of their grandchild’s morning. Grandparents were served breakfast and afterward the ‘ManaTeam’ walked grandparents to their grandchild’s classroom – each had a small token of appreciation waiting for them. Thank you to all the families that made this day special for students!

Oak Hammock K8 Students Learn about Life Cycles

 Mrs. Whitehead’s first-grade students have been learning about living things and life cycles. Life cycle is the series of changes in the life of an organism. They learned about the caterpillar turning into a butterfly. Over the course of a few days, they watched as the caterpillars spun into their cocoons and later turned into butterflies. Water Cycle Sharks at SLWK8

Fifth graders in Ms. Kalio’s class worked collaboratively to complete a science experiment about the Water Cycle! Students started by making predictions as to how water from the ocean becomes rain over land. They created a landscape model out of clay and poured water over the model. They covered their container with plastic wrap and secured it with a rubber band. It was placed in a sunny spot and students observed how water moved throughout the landscape. After, students analyzed and recorded their data!  

Central’s Key Club in Pumpkin Season

On a typical sweltering south Florida Friday afternoon, Key Club members helped set up the Pumpkin Patch at the Frist United Methodist Church. The church raises over $40,000 in pumpkin sales to help the community. Way to go FPC Key Club!

SLWK8 Sharks are Sensational with Strategies

Fifth graders in Mrs. Portee’s class are sensational with strategies! Students competed in groups to solve multi-digit multiplication equations using various methods such as Area Model, Partial Product, and Traditional.  

CAST Middle School Musical Theatre Students Visit the Kravis Center

Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST) Middle School Musical Theatre students had the wonderful opportunity of visiting the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach. Students watched the matinee performance of Shrek, The Musical.  Students also experienced their very first “talk back” with the Shrek cast.  A special thank you to Mr. Wallace Rahming, Musical Theatre director, for providing CAST students with such a wonderful experience.

Special Event at MSE for Perfect Attendance: Water Balloons and Smiles

To celebrate Perfect Attendance for September, Morningside Elementary held a special event where students with perfect attendance got to enjoy a fun pop-up incentive: throwing water balloons at our brave Principal, Assistant Principal, School Resource Deputy, and Instructional Coach! 💦 It was a blast, and we loved seeing the joy and excitement on everyone’s faces. 😄  

Mosaic Digital Academy Owls Explore Mixtures of Solids and Multiplication

Mosaic Digital Academy’s elementary students explored mixtures of solids and multiplication through hands-on activities during the Elementary September Park Meet-up. Students enrolled in this virtual platform have multiple opportunities throughout the year to meet up with their peers to socialize and collaborate through standards-based learning. September’s theme was “Fall-icious”. Students used pumpkin seeds to create patterns and structures to help them understand mathematical concepts. Building arrays allowed them to relate multiplication and division by manipulating the pumpkin seeds in a variety of ways. Exciting Adventures in SLWCHS Early Childhood Education

Our early childhood education students have been diving into the Baby Think It Over program, and it’s been a whirlwind of fun and learning! Imagine taking home a baby for a night—what an adventure! Students have described it as an “eye-opening experience,” and it’s easy to see why. Not only do they get hands-on practice with baby care (hello, midnight feedings!), but they also sharpen their life budgeting skills. It’s like a crash course in real-life adulting, all wrapped up in one adorable package! Who knew learning could be this much fun?
