Fairlawn Elementary students represented the Bahamas by wearing either the colors of the flag (gold, black, and aqua) or the actual flag itself. The students were thrilled to continue the support for Hurricane Dorian relief. All together the students raised over $670 dollars.
Fort Pierce Central’s Allied Health students participated in a guest speaker presentation by Indian River State College (IRSC) arranged by Ms. Barbera Charles. IRSC representatives discussed multiple career options in healthcare, along with criteria for enrollment. Students gained meaningful knowledge for continuing opportunities beyond high school.
Morningside staff and students enjoyed a morning of bowling to support the Big Brother Big Sister Event held at Superplay USA on Saturday, September 21st.
In Mrs. Clarke’s eighth grade Earth and Space Science class, students apply knowledge they have acquired about atomic theory to create models of atoms using marshmallows and toothpicks! Students had to select an element of their choice form the periodic table, identify and calculate the amount of subatomic particles, select specific colors of marshmallows for each particle and create the atomic nucleus with orbiting electrons likened to the Bohr model. The best part of course was in the end when they got to enjoy them as a tasty treat!
On September 11, 2019, the Port Saint Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion conducted a color guard for the Career and College Fair held in the gym. The color guard was commanded by Cadet Major Alexis Morris while the state flag was held by Cadet Sargent First Class Alexis Wilson. Guarding the national flag was Cadet Sargent First Class Emmalyne Lewiston and guarding the state flag was Cadet Second Lieutenant Michael Schmitt. St. Lucie West K-8 School enjoyed a fun-filled breakfast with our bus drivers on Thursday, September 19th, Dean Estrada and several PBIS Core team members and teachers helped to organize the event. We are thankful for our bus drivers and their commitment to our students.
The Great Stewards of St. Bernadette Parish overwhelmed the teachers and staff of Dale Cassens Education Complex after the church’s school supply drive collected over a year’s supply of consumables! Their ministry bestowed upon the students with all the composition books, pencils, colored markers/pencils, glue sticks, etc. that will be needed for all our lessons! What a great way to start off our year!
Clubs across Treasure Coast’s campus united in friendly competition to collect donated goods for those effected by Hurricane Dorian. Together they were able to pack a pallet to be donated to Missionary Flights International. #TitanBornTitanBred
Kindergarten shared their artistic representation of the American Flag with Mr. Whitaker’s 7th grade Civics class. Kindergarten has been learning all about different American symbols and were thrilled to share their knowledge with 7th grade. The 7th graders were prepared with different questions to enhance the learning of their kindergarten buddy!
West Gate K-8 Mustangs are enjoying lessons each week with our Social Emotional Learning units. This week the focus was on learning about positive values.
Congratulations to Lincoln Park Academy Senior Callie Zheng! She has been selected as a semi-finalist in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. She is one of 16,000 seniors selected nationwide to compete for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million.
Mrs. Logue’s 5th grade students made mixtures and then practiced using different tools to separate them by their properties. First, they combined gravel and sand and then separated it by particle size using a sieve. Then, students mixed iron filings into the sand and discussed how to separate them. They decided on using a magnet to get the iron out of the sand. Finally, they mixed salt into the sand and discovered that the only way to separate the salt out was with the property of solubility. It was an amazing morning of intense learning and even more intense emotions. Northport students were enthralled by Mrs. Tiffany Tredor who played The National Anthem on her violin. Five Northstar 7th grade students served as “Instructional Coaches” and gave students five guiding questions using the 5 W’s of Who, What, Where, When and Why. The drama instructor, Ms. Kim Fields, and her middle school students used a special poem to portray and honor the eight children who perished on 9/11. Palm Pointe Educational Research School held a reward Carnival for students who participated in the Summer Reading Program. In order for students to attend, they had to read a minimum of two chapter books, one of them being a Sunshine State Reader book. Additionally, students had to create thinking maps that demonstrated they comprehended what they read. At the carnival, students participated in activities including ski ball, bowling, basketball, dancing, and a variety of other carnival games. On Wednesday, August 28th, CAST held their first Stop and STEAM day of the year! This month’s school-wide event focused on the first letter of STEAM, “S”, for science. Teachers in grades K-8 designed and facilitated hands-on activities for their students to study and apply the scientific method in a variety of ways from investigations of color and shape to hypothesizing about changes in particles. Stay tuned for next month’s Stop and STEAM event highlighting technology.
First Graders at Mariposa Elementary are enjoying the 2019-2020 Sunshine State Young Reader Award Junior books. Mia Romero and Isabella Cruz are buddy reading their first SSYRA book. They are best friends and are looking forward to reading all 15 of the books this year.
Students in Mrs. Logue’s 5th grade science class at Bayshore Elementary performed their first science experiment. Students were shown five different liquids and asked what would happen if they were each poured into the same cup one at a time. Students completed three different types of investigations (poll, internet research, and an experiment) and learned that performing an experiment was the most precise way to answer the inquiry question.
